Narratives on the Accounting Worldview of Practising Managers
2017
This paper examines management accounting from the perspective of its most important user: practising managers. We seek to enhance the understanding of the relationship between managerial work and accounting. This interpretative and qualitative study takes a unique approach by using narrative texts for building an understanding of how managers view accounting in their work. First, a deeper understanding of accounting and managerial work is sought on the basis of learning experiences of managers. Second, a wider point of view is achieved by looking at managers’ perspectives on organizational development. Third, the study addresses managers’ objectives for building their personal competence i…
Balancing Between Narratives of the West and Hindu Nationalism in Emerging India
2019
India has been an important point of reference for Western identity, and the construction of an Orient. Vice versa, people in India have constructed their own Occidentalisms about Westerners, and the global position of ‘the West’, as well as to form an Indian identity. The West has represented the colonizer in India, but at the same time a source of valuable ideologies, values, policies, and innovations benefiting India. Moreover, many nationalist narratives in India emphasize self-reliance from and even superiority to the West. During Narendra Modi’s administration, the ‘New India’ has concentrated on taking a more active role in the world. Traditional elements of Indian tradition have bee…

The article discusses the concept of non-fiction from a theoretical poit of view and identifies two fundamental models, in some ways very different, Capote and Mailer. The non-fiction combines the rhetoric and historical component to create a form of historiograp…
Ceļojumu naratīvu lingvistiskā analīze
2021

In order to enable meaningful playing : how to support player's learning through digital game narrative design
2017
The main research problem of this constructive study is, how player’s learning during game playing can be supported through game narrative design. When the solutions are searched within narrative theories, modern game theories, and learning game design research, the problem turns conceptually challenging. Basically, the challenge stems from the ambiguous concept of narrative and the diversity of narrative theories. The academic conversation on learning game design has drawn approaches from various narrative theories and traditions of screenwriting and creative writing. Hence, the conversation results fragmental. Firstly, I consider what kind of narrative definition and conception should be …
Pre-service subject teachers’ personal teacher characterisations after the pedagogical studies
2020
This study explored how five pre-service subject teachers characterised themselves as teachers after completing their year-long pedagogical studies in a Finnish university. Our narrative analysis of the interview data showed that the students shared a social representation of a past teacher characterised by wide power and emotional distance between pupils and the teacher. The students differentiated themselves from this kind of teacher character, and rather positioned themselves as interactive and caring educators identifying with their own ideal teachers as well as meaningful learning experiences in the pedagogical studies. Consequently, the study showed that engaging pre-service subject t…
Queer Male (Post)Soviet Narratives in Interviews by Rita Ruduša and Fiktion by Klāvs Smilgzieds
2015
One culture within a culture is the culture of LGBT people in Latvia or, to use a contemporary designation, queer culture. In Latvia, queer culture is still practically invisible. In this paper I will analyse two types of queer narratives: documentary life stories collected by Rita Rudusa in her book Forced Underground (2012) and the manuscript of a collection of 12 short stories by Klāvs Smilgzieds (2014), originally published serially during the 1990s in an under ground Latvian gay magazine. Both types of texts employ different emphasis talking about queers in Soviet and post-Soviet life. Rudusa’s interviews reflect on the situation of being in the closet and on fear and loneliness, while…
