The Fate of Phthalates in Surface Waters During Humus Removal by Precipitation

2010

Published version of an article from the journal:International Journal of Arts and Sciences. Also available from the publisher:http://www.openaccesslibrary.org/images/XEW117_Alfred_A._Christy_I_.pdf. Open Access Phthalates are esters of aromatic 1,2 di-carboxylic acids and are widely found in surface waters and their removal is necessary because of their effects on human health. Humic material in water can adsorb phthalates and may be precipitated along with phthalates. The fate of phthalates in surface waters during humus removal by precipitation has been investigated in the laboratory with well characterised humic substances from the ?NOM typing project? (Natural Organic Matter typing pro…

Water Chemistry in the Confluence Zone Downstream a Limestone Treated Lake and an Acid Tributary: Principal Component Analyses Including Warm and Col…

2010

Published version of an article from the journal:International Journal of Arts and Sciences. Also available from the publisher: http://www.openaccesslibrary.org/images/XEW244_Alfred_A._Christy_II_.pdf. Open Access Extensive limestone treatment of lakes and watercourses has been carried out especially in Norway and Sweden to counteract effects of acidification. Lakes have been the most commonly treated part of the water systems. However, treatment of lakes upstream acid tributaries may introduce downstream toxic mixing zones for fish. To sort this out the outlet of a treated lake, a downstream acid tributary and two sites in the confluence zone were intensely monitored during a period of 28 …

Attraction factors of shopping centers: Effects of design and eco-natural environment on intention to visit

2017

Purpose People visit malls not only to buy a product they need but also to enjoy the atmosphere or environment of the shopping center. Based on design and eco-natural environment, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the attraction factors of shopping centers. Design/methodology/approach The sample comprised 449 consumers from 25 different shopping centers in Bogota. The structural equation model (AMOS) enables the authors to discuss the influence of the design of green and natural spaces in the commercial management of shopping centers, given its positive and significant effect on the intention to visit. Findings Shopping centers are, by definition, spaces with a high level of design o…

Methodological Considerations for Movement Education Interventions in Natural Environments for Primary School Children: A Scoping Review.

2022

Background: Education is the ideal setting for carrying out projects to improve primary students’ capacities. In recent years, interventions in natural environments have been more frequently proposed, but there is still a lack of standardization, making deeper study of the topic necessary. This review aims to report on what previous scientific research has been carried out, and eventually, to propose standard operating procedures for future interventions. Methods: This is a scoping review that adopted the PRISMA guidelines. Primary school children have been included, and the interventions had to be proposed adopting nature as the primary element of the learning process. Results: A total of …

Human Rights–Based Social Work and the Natural Environment: Time for New Perspectives

2023

AbstractThe natural environment and sustainability play an increasingly important role in social work as a discipline and profession. This is often described as the ecosocial paradigm. Even though the paradigm shares important ethical foundations with human rights–based social work, the connection between both is rarely examined in social work scholarship. This article addresses the gap by asking the following questions: How is the ecosocial paradigm linked to the human rights discourse in social work? What is the environmental dimension of human rights, and what implications does it have for social work? How can a human rights–based social work encompass the environmental dimension? In res…

Profiles of Nature Exposure and Outdoor Activities Associated With Occupational Well-Being Among Employees.

2018

This research addresses the profiles of nature exposure and outdoor activities in nature among Finnish employees (N = 783). The profiles were formed on the bases of nature exposure at work and the frequency and type of outdoor activities in nature engaged in during leisure time. The profiles were investigated in relation to work engagement and burnout. The latent profile analysis identified a five-class solution as the best model: High exposure (8%), Versatile exposure (22%), Unilateral exposure (38%), Average exposure (13%), and Low exposure (19%). An Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted for each well-being outcome in order to evaluate how the identified profiles related to occupa…

Krimināllikuma 102. panta piemērošana ūdens piesārņojuma novēršanai: praktiskās problēmas

2015

Krimināllikuma 102.pants paredz kriminālatbildību par noziedzīgiem nodarījumiem pret dabas vidi, taču praksē nākas saskarties ar problēmām noziedzīga nodarījuma sastāva kvalifikācijā. Vainīgās personas netiek sauktas pie kriminālatbildības, kā arī nav iespējams pierādīt personas vainu izdarītajā nodarījumā. Darbā tiek izstrādāti priekšlikumi likumdošanas pilnveidei ar mērķi izstrādāt vienotus kritērijus pēc kuriem būtu iespējams noteikt un paredzēt kaitīgo seku iestāšanos saistībā ar ūdens piesārņojumu, novēršot gadījumus, kad vainīgās personas netiek sauktas pie kriminālatbildības, jo nav iespējams konstatēt noziedzīga nodarījuma sastāvu. Atslēgvārdi: Krimināllikuma 102.pants; noziedzīgi n…
