Machine-readable entailments with the Italian 'prendere' construction expressing hitting and insulting events

The Italian language features a little debated transitive construction with prendere ‘to take/to catch’ in which a prepositional phrase (PP) with an adverbial value occurs mandatorily (e.g. Lui prese a pugni Leo ‘He punched Leo’). Semantically, this construction often implies the use of physical force or verbal offence. In the hitting or insulting event, the notional subject generally is a [+ Human] Agent, whilst the notional direct object generally is a [+ Animate] Affectee ([1]: 4). Semantics driven interaction using natural language in students tutoring

The aim of this work is to introduce a semantic integration between an ontology and a chatbot in an Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) to interact with students using natural language. The interaction process is driven by the use of a purposely defined ontology. In the ontology two types of conceptual relations are defined. Besides the usual relations, which are used to define the domain's structure, another type of relation is used to define the navigation schema inside the ontology according to the need of managing uncertainty. Ontology development starts with a rigorous ontological analysis that provides a conceptualization of the domain to model agreed by the community. An ontology, specified in a formal language, approximates the intended models of this conceptualization. It needs then to be revised and refined until an ontological commitment is found. Model Driven Specification of Ontology Translations

The alignment of different ontologies requires the specification, representation and execution of translation rules. The rules need to integrate translations at the lexical, the syntactic and the semantic layer requiring semantic reasoning as well as low-level specification of ad-hoc conversions of data. Existing formalisms for representing translation rules cannot cover the representation needs of these three layers in one model. We propose a metamodel-based representation of ontology alignments that integrate semantic translations using description logics and lower level translation specifications into one model of representation for ontology alignments.

The equative sentence in Finnish Sign Language

It is argued in this paper that equative sentences in Finnish Sign Language (FinSL) conform to the general schema of (NP) NP+(PI+)NP, parenthesis marking optionality of elements. Riga: from FrameNet to Semantic Frames with C6.0 Rules

For the purposes of SemEval-2015 Task-18 on the semantic dependency parsing we combined the best-performing closed track approach from the SemEval-2014 competition with state-of-the-art techniques for FrameNet semantic parsing. In the closed track our system ranked third for the semantic graph accuracy and first for exact labeled match of complete semantic graphs. These results can be attributed to the high accuracy of the C6.0 rule-based sense labeler adapted from the FrameNet parser.
