Process Drama Based Information Management for Assessment and Classification in Learning

In this chapter we present a formal description of information management for assessment and classification in learning. The description is supported by a structure related to drama process for learning. Our logic follows the idea of invoking uncertainties using underlying categories, and the language of processes in ‘drama process’ is taken to be BPMN (Business Process Modelling Notation).

Prosodic phenomena in simultaneous interpreting

This paper reports on an empirical study on prosody in English-German simultaneous interpreting. It discusses prosody with particular reference to its tonal, durational and dynamic features, such as intonation, pauses, rhythm and accent, as well as its main functions, i.e. structure and prominence. Dialog Structure Automatic Modeling

This paper presents the approach implemented as part of a conversational bot named WIH (Word Intelligent Handler). It has a complex architecture with several components. Some of them are the ER-memory, EP-memory and other minor modules that provide the prototype of good modeling of Spanish sentences. They constitute the knowledge-representation mechanism that is used by WIH to build automatic answers during dialogs with humans. A Concept for Quantitative Comparison of Mathematical and Natural Language and its possible Effect on Learning

Starting with the question whether there is a connection between the mathematical capabilities of a person and his or her mother tongue, we introduce a new modeling approach to quantitatively compare natural languages with mathematical language. The question arises from educational assessment studies that indicate such a relation. Texts written in natural languages can be deconstructed into a dependence graph, in simple cases a dependence tree. The same kind of deconstruction is also possible for mathematical texts. Recent research has suggested that music and language processing share neural resources, leading to new hypotheses about interference in the simultaneous processing of these two structures. Computational analysis of large musical corpora provides an approach that overcomes some of the limitations of manual analysis related to small sample sizes and subjectivity. The present paper aims to provide an overview of the computational approach to music research. It discusses the issues of music representation, musical feature extraction, digital music collections, and data mining techniques. Moreover, it provides examples of visualization of large musical collections.

Another defence of enumerated types

I claim that enumerations, while of course not strictly necessary, are an elegant and useful facility in modern programming languages. I try to show that arguments recently given against them are weak at best and bogus a t worst, for general-purpose programming. Some related issues on types in programming languages are touched as well. These make it even more questionable whether Oberon marks progress or regress in language design.
