For a Philosophy of Mathematical Practice

It is a fact that of the logicist, the intuitionist, and Hilbert's programmes, the classical programmes set up to establish mathematics on safe foundations, some have failed, whereas others have long since lost their propulsive force. Two of the consequences of the crisis of the classical programmes in the foundations of mathematics were: a widespread scepticism towards the possibility of establishing the certainty of mathematical methods, and a new attention paid to mathematical practice. The main aim of this article is that of individuating some directions of research along which to develop a tenable philosophy of mathematical practice.

Una lettura non riduzionista della filosofia della mente di W. V Quine, offre la chiave per apprezzare alcune fondamentali curvature teoriche del suo naturalismo epistemologico. Permette di evidenziare una concezione dell'osservazione quale cognitivamente permeata che non implichi forme radicali di relativismo conoscitivo e di rendere perspicua la rilevanza delle aperture sul tema dell'empatia nella comprensione dell'altro. Ne emerge, in dialogo con voci autorevoli del dibattito contemporaneo, un'interpretazione che si discosta da alcuni stereotipi storiografici consolidati e tratteggia i contorni di una peculiare concezione naturalistica della razionalità.
Descartes’ Notion of the Mind–Body Union and its Phenomenological Expositions

The chapter clarifies the connections between Descartes’ discussion of the mind–body union and classical phenomenology of embodiment, as developed by Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. It argues that the perplexing twofoldness of Descartes’ account of the mind–body union—interactionistic on the one hand, and holistic on the other—can be explicated and made coherent by phenomenological analyses of the two different attitudes that we can take toward human beings: the naturalistic and the personalistic. Tämän tutkielman aiheena oli ensimmäinen osa Irène Némirovskyn postuumisti ilmestyneestä romaanista Suite française.Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli analysoida Tempête en juin’ssä esiintyviä naturalistisen kirjallisuuden piirteitä. Teoriaosuudessa esitellään kirjailija sekä naturalismin syntyyn 1800-luvulla vaikuttaneet tekijät ja naturalistisen kirjallisuuden perinteiset piirteet. The aim of this paper is to study critically, with the help of Habermas´s moral theory, the current naturalistic approach to morality —which is based on both the evolutionary theory and neuroscience—. In doing so it will be explained the specifically moral use of practical reason, as Habermas propose; it will be compared this moral use with Kohlberg's postconventional stage of moral development; and it will be claimed that naturalistic approach cannot explain this stage, that can be understood as specific justice area.

According to a generally accepted thesis, science and metaphysics are separate intellectual activities. The thesis is new and not generally accepted in the philosophical systems of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the first centuries in the development of the modern philosophy. The thesis presupposes the existence of sciences and their methodologies. Natural sciences in the modern sense exist since the sixteenth century, human sciences since the first half of the nineteenth century, and formal sciences since the end of the nineteenth century.
