Giving patients secure " google-like " access to their medical record

2008

International audience; The main problem for the patient who wants to have access to all of the information about his health is that this information is very often spread over many medical records. Therefore, it would be convenient for the patient, after being identified and authenticated, to use a kind of specific medical search engine as one part of the solution to this main problem. The principal objective is for the patient to have access to his or her medical information at anytime and wherever it has been stored. This proposal for secure "Google Like" access requires the addition of different conditions: very strict identity checks using cryptographic techniques such as those planned …

Ludzie i krowy w "Chłopach" Władysława Reymonta

2022

This article presents the hitherto undescribed relationship between humans and cows in Władysław Reymont's The Peasants. The tropes used by Reymont, especially the personifications of naturę in the Young Poland style, do not include the world of animals. However, the totality of Reymont's world lies in the blurring of distinctive boundaries between species and their subsequent restoration in an anthropocentric order. The assumptions of animal studiesand ecological realism used in the article allow Brzozowska to show the influence of cows on human behavior, especially that of women. Cows appear as mothers-feeders, confidants, and creatures that suppress own aggression; they are synonymous wi…

Ontogenetic δ15N Trends and Multidecadal Variability in Shells of the Bivalve Mollusk, Arctica islandica

2021

Bulk stable nitrogen isotope values of the carbonate-bound organic matrix in bivalve shells (δ15NCBOM) are increasingly used to assess past food web dynamics, track anthropogenic nitrogen pollution and reconstruct hydrographic changes. However, it remains unresolved if the δ15NCBOM values are also affected by directed ontogenetic trends which can bias ecological and environmental interpretations. This very aspect is tested here with modern and fossil specimens of the long-lived ocean quahog, Arctica islandica, collected from different sites and water depths in the NE Atlantic Ocean. As demonstrated, δ15NCBOM values from the long chronologies show a general decrease through lifetime by −0.00…

La vegetazione del litorale di Manfria, presso Gela (Sicilia), area soggetta a vincolo archeologico.

2000

The results of a phytosociological investigation about a coastal area of S. Sicily, close to Gela, are presented. The coexistence of several lithological substrata, as well as the particular climatic conditions of this area, gives rise to a noteworthy floristic and vegetational biodiversity. As matter of fact, a set of N. African species are here localized, taking part to peculiar vegetation types, sometimes exclusive of this sicilian coast-stretch. The observed plant communities are represented by psammophilous associations of Cakiletea maritimae, Ammophiletea and Malcolmietalia, salt-marsh vegetation of Sarcocornietea and Phragmito-Magnocericetea, halophilous rupicolous shrublands of Crit…

Obstacles to the problematization of time in an interdisciplinary approach: the explanation of some natural phenomena by Tunisian students and teache…

2009

This research focuses on learning and teaching of biology and geology by students and teachers. The use of geological time in the explanation of some natural phenomena by learners is difficult. We use an epistemological reflection on the teaching and study of this concept in an interdisciplinary approach by using elements of history and philosophy of science. An accurate diagnosis of the difficulties of learners through many research methods let us understand their problems and suggest strategies to facilitate the acquisition not only the concept of time but also other concepts in science. The main objectif of this research is to identify epistemological obstacles to problematization of tim…

The Influence of Contextual Aspects in Talent Development: Interaction Between Relative Age and Birthplace Effects in NBA-Drafted Players

2021

The aims of this study were two-fold: (1) to inspect separately for the relative age and birthplace effects for players selected in the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft; (2) to explore the interaction among these factors and analyse this interaction in players' career performance. The database was obtained from the official records of the players (n = 1,738), who were selected during the annual editions of the NBA Draft from 1990 to 2019. The participants' date of birth was analyzed according to the month of birth and divided into four quartiles. The place of birth was compared to the distribution of the general population' places of birth based on different communities' sizes. C…

Klatring i trær og hyttebygging: - om barns lek og lekesteder ute

2015

Abstract: This article describes 10 year old children`s play in nature during school hours. However, my result does equally reflect on children in kindergarden as well. Observation and conversation was used as methods as well as pictures. The children’s play in the trees and building huts was conducted in groups, and their communication was nonverbal with each other and with the nature. However; the girls reveal that they enjoy their conversations while being in the tree. The children often play at the same place over and over. This is significant to the evolution of the play and the children’s communication with their places in nature.Sammendrag: Denne artikkelen omhandler 10 år gamle bar…

Mind the gap: Treefalls as drivers of parental trade-offs

2015

Abstract Tree‐fall gaps are small‐scale disturbances whose formation, colonization, and role in forest dynamics are well documented, but whose effects on animal ecology are still greatly overlooked, except for studies comparing species richness of gaps 6+ months old to that in the closed canopy. Other factors associated with the invasion of fresh tree‐fall gaps such as animal breeding adaptations have been largely neglected. I studied the immediate (within hours and days) arrival of the poison frog Dendrobates tinctorius in new tree‐fall gaps to examine the dynamics of their invasion in relation to tadpole rearing. I found that rearing sites are occupied sooner and tadpoles deposited at hig…
