"IF THIS IS SO FUN FOR ADULTS, IT MUST BE A THOUSAND TIMES MORE FUN FOR CHILDREN!" ADULT TEACHER STUDENT EXPERIENCES ON GROUPING THROUGH DRAMA COURSE…
2016
Cooperative learning, grouping, flexibility in communication and transformational ways of learning play a very important role in today's learning environments. Future teachers need strong experience in grouping and in the mechanisms that lie beyond the ways people form groups. It is essential to make teacher students familiar with the methods of how to positively influence the atmosphere where pupils are forming groups, communicating and cooperating. Drama education has unique and very effective methods for successful grouping. This study reflects the meanings teacher students give on drama course practices influencing their experiences on grouping. The study was executed in Finland at the …
On the Visual Distraction Effects of Audio-Visual Route Guidance
2016
This is the first controlled quantitative analysis on the visual distraction effects of audio-visual route guidance in simulated, but ecologically realistic driving scenarios with dynamic maneuvers and self-controlled speed (N = 24). The audio-visual route guidance system under testing passed the set verification criteria, which was based on drivers’ preferred occlusion distances on the test routes. There were no significant effects of an upcoming maneuver instruction location (up, down) on the in-car display on any metric or on the experienced workload. The drivers’ median occlusion distances correlated significantly with median incar glance distances. There was no correlation between driv…
Teachers and Students Surfing Together
2012
Several studies regarding the integration of audio-video conferencing and instant messaging in university and professional courses (Isaacs et al. 1994; Scholl et al.,2006) have revealed the importance of these two resources in enhancing interaction. Other studies (Boset al. 2001) have pinpointed that, in building trust, audio-video communication can reach the highest levels of effectiveness and liking (Schliemann, et al. 2002). Web-conference has made the web a powerful interactive tool, facilitating collaboration on joint projects and enabling the development of educational settings which lead to meaningful learning (Gillani, 2003). Such interactive modes in a blended-learning environment,…

Visual learning in Drosophila: Application on a roving robot and comparisons
2011
Visual learning is an important aspect of fly life. Flies are able to extract visual cues from objects, like colors, vertical and horizontal distributedness, and others, that can be used for learning to associate a meaning to specific features (i.e. a reward or a punishment). Interesting biological experiments show trained stationary flying flies avoiding flying towards specific visual objects, appearing on the surrounding environment. Wild-type flies effectively learn to avoid those objects but this is not the case for the learning mutant rutabaga defective in the cyclic AMP dependent pathway for plasticity. A bio-inspired architecture has been proposed to model the fly behavior and experi…
Enceintes néolithiques de Bourgogne
2002

Recent content-based image retrieval systems offer an interactive visual browsing of images databases. These methods perform a classification of images (offline) into a search tree for users browsing (online). This approach shows three main problems:1) The size of decriptor vector (n>100) makes distance computing sensitive to dimensionality curse,2) Having many different kinds of attributes into descriptor vector does not help classification,3) In general, classification does not take in consideration users' search context. In this work, we propose a method based on building hierarchical signatures having small increasing sizes, this allows to take users' search context into consideration. …
