Spanish Fascist Women’s Transnational Relations during the Second World War: Between Ideology and Realpolitik
2018
Spanish fascist women played a very active role in the Falange’s cross-border relations with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy during the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War. From the very beginning, fascist women took a preeminent place in these contacts and exchanges in order to see with their own eyes how both fascist models were at a practical level. These relationships between fascist women’s organizations were born out of deep ideological affinity and were especially fluid, firstly on a bilateral level and after 1940 on the ‘New Order’ Europe-wide multilateral, transnational collaboration. However, they lacked neither of political calculation nor could abstract from the wider fra…
Lluís Ferran de Pol and Concentrationary Literature: From Campo de concentración to Un de tants
2011
This article analyses the different rewritings that Catalan writer Lluis Ferran de Pol (Arenys de Mar, 1911-1995) published of his most important concentrationary memories. Ferran de Pol was interned in French concentration camps during the first months of 1939. As a result of his confinement, he wrote Campo de concentracion, a book written in Spanish and published in the Mexican newspaper El Nacional during his exile in Mexico. Back in Catalonia in the early 1960s, he rewrote these prose pieces into Catalan and published them under the title De lluny i de prop (1973). In 2009 this work saw another edition in Catalan under the title Un de tants, edited by Josep-Vicent Garcia.
Identità nazionale, monarchia, impero. Costruire la Spagna nell'età del liberalismo (1782-1868)
2018
The protection of cultural heritage and the role of culture in promoting European integration
2019
This article analyzes the legal protection of cultural heritage and the role of cultural heritage in promoting European integration. From a legal perspective, the notion of culture stems from the preamble of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and is considered as a fundamental norm; however, cultural rights have been an overlooked and often ignored category of human rights for decades. The article thus aims at studying such a complex legal issue both from the perspective of International Law as well as under European Law in order to understand the way culture fosters integration within the European Union.

Vibrio ponticus sp. nov., a neighbour of V fluvialis-V. furnissii clade, isolated from gilthead sea bream, mussels and seawater.
2004
A new Vibrio species, Vibrio ponticus, is proposed to accommodate four marine bacteria isolated from sea water, mussels and diseased sea bream (Sparus aurata), at the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Strains are Gram negative, slightly halophilic bacteria that require Na+ ion for growth, oxidase and catalase positive, negative for arginine dihydrolase and ornithine decarboxylase but positive for lysine decarboxylase and indole, and utilize beta-hydroxybutyrate as a sole carbon source. Phylogenetic analysis locate these marine bacteria in the vicinity of the V. fluvialis-V. furnissii clade, sharing with these two species 16S rDNA sequence similarities slightly above 97% (97.1 and 97.3%, respect…
