A parallel and sensitive software tool for methylation analysis on multicore platforms.
2015
Abstract Motivation: DNA methylation analysis suffers from very long processing time, as the advent of Next-Generation Sequencers has shifted the bottleneck of genomic studies from the sequencers that obtain the DNA samples to the software that performs the analysis of these samples. The existing software for methylation analysis does not seem to scale efficiently neither with the size of the dataset nor with the length of the reads to be analyzed. As it is expected that the sequencers will provide longer and longer reads in the near future, efficient and scalable methylation software should be developed. Results: We present a new software tool, called HPG-Methyl, which efficiently maps bis…
Combined dynamic response of primary and multiply connected cascaded secondary subsystems
1991
A method is proposed for the deterministic and stochastic non-stationary analysis of linear composite systems with cascaded secondary subsystems subjected to a seismic input. This method makes it possible to evaluate, by means of a unitary formulation, the deterministic and non-stationary stochastic response of both classically and non-classically damped subsystems and of secondary subsystems multiply supported on the primary one, as well as the ground. The proposed procedure is very efficient from a computational point of view, because of the Kronecker algebra systematically employed. Indeed, by using this algebra, it is possible to obtain in a very compact and elegant form the eigenproper…

The structure of reactive grain-boundaries under stress containing confined fluids
2006
We present numerical experiments on structure development in grain-boundaries during dissolution–precipitation creep. Two solids that are represented by an elastic spring configuration are pressed together with a compressible fluid in the grain-boundary. The solid can dissolve or precipitate depending on elastic and surface energy as well as fluid pressure and concentration of dissolved material in the fluid. We perform a number of numerical experiments with different starting configurations that represent a large-scale island-channel interface with solid–solid contacts across the islands, a rough grain-boundary interface with a fluid along the whole interface and a smooth thin-film interfa…
Instabilities of the deformation process in cold drawing of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and other polymers
1981
The relationship between drawing rate and drawing stress was studied for amorphous poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) under various experimental conditions. Three types of expriments were performed: simple drawing with necking at constant rate, drawing through a conical die, and drawing at constant stress. Under constant stress conditions a transition between two stable regimes of drawing can be observed. The transition occurs at a critical stress σc at which the rate of neck propagation changes by some orders of magnitude. Such a transition was found both below and above the glass transition of PET. With constant drawing rates instabilities of neck propagation were observed under certain e…
Tumor fibroso localizado de la pleura: hallazgos radiológicos
2007
Localized fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare tumors that represent less than 5% of the pleural tumors, although they have also been described in extrathoracic locations such as the abdomen, head and neck or central nervous system. A total of 80% begin in the visceral pleura and are not related with environmental risk factors. They generally occur in patients over 50 with a mild predominance in the woman. Up to 50% of the patients are asymptomatic, so that it appears as an incidental finding on the chest X-ray. These are slow growing tumors. They are seen on the X-ray as well-defined rounded lesions dependent on the pleura and 50% are pediculated. It is important to know its radiological …
Robotic-Assisted Neck Dissection: Our Experience
2021
Abstract Introduction Robotic neck dissection surgery allows less invasiveness to significantly improve the aesthetic impact even though it does not compromise the principles of radical cancer procedure. Objective The aim of our work is to describe our personal experience with robotic neck dissection surgery. Methods A retrospective study was conducted by analyzing 10 patients subjected to a robotic neck dissection surgery. In the period from August 2012 to December 2018, these patients have been treated exclusively with robotic lateral-cervical dissection. Five of them were subjected to robotic-assisted transaxillary neck dissection (RATAND) and the other 5 treated with robotic-assisted re…

In-Vitro Investigation of Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Transmucosal versus Submerged Bone Level Implants Used in Fixed Prosthesis
2021
Background: The present in vitro study aimed to investigate the fatigue performance of different dental fixtures in two different emergence profiles. Biological failures are frequently reported because the problem canonly be solved by replacing a failing implant with a new one. Clinicians addressed minor mechanical failures, such as bending, loosening or the fracture of screws, abutment, or the entire prosthesis, by simply replacing or fixing them. Methods: Transmucosal and submerged bone-level dental implants underwent fatigue strength tests (statical and dynamical performance) by a standardized test: UNI EN ISO 14801:2016. Two types of emergence profiles (Premium sub-crestal straight impl…
Upper thoracic-spine disc degeneration in patients with cervical pain.
2003
To study the relationship of upper thoracic spine degenerative disc contour changes on MR imaging in patients with neck pain. The relation between upper thoracic and cervical spine degenerative disc disease is not well established. One hundred and fifty-six patients referred with cervical pain were studied. There were 73 women and 77 men with a mean age of 48.6 +/- 14.6 years (range, 19 to 83 years). All MR studies were performed with a large 23-cm FOV covering at least from the body of T4 to the clivus. Discs were coded as normal, protrusion/bulge or extrusion.Degenerative thoracic disc contour changes were observed in 13.4% of patients with cervical pain. T2-3 was the most commonly affecte…
