Transforming growth factor-beta 1 is an important cytokine in the pathophysiology of liver fibrosis, stimulating the production of extracellular matrix. Whether this cytokine can also control the degradation of matrix proteins in liver cells has not been investigated. Refereed/Peer-reviewed Hemostatic agents are pivotal for managing clinical and traumatic bleeding during emergency and domestic circumstances. Herein, a novel functional hybrid nanocomposite material consisting of plasma polymer-modified zeolite 13X and ultra-small gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) was fabricated as an efficient hemostatic agent. The surface of zeolite 13X was functionalised with amine groups which served as binding sites for carboxylate terminated AuNCs. Specific processing of tenascin-C by the metalloprotease meprinβ neutralizes its inhibition of cell spreading

The metalloprotease meprin has been implicated in tissue remodelling due to its capability to degrade extracellular matrix components. Here, we investigated the susceptibility of tenascin-C to cleavage by meprinbeta and the functional properties of its proteolytic fragments. A set of monoclonal antibodies against chicken and human tenascin-C allowed the mapping of proteolytic fragments generated by meprinbeta. In chicken tenascin-C, meprinbeta processed all three major splicing variants by removal of 10kDa N-terminal and 38kDa C-terminal peptides, leaving a large central part of subunits intact. AbstractCentrins are members of the family of Ca2+-binding EF-hand proteins. In photoreceptor cells, centrin isoform 1 is specifically localized in the non-motile cilium. This connecting cilium links the light-sensitive outer segment with the biosynthetic active inner segment of the photoreceptor cell. All intracellular exchanges between these compartments have to occur through this cilium. Abstract Procollagen C-proteinase (PCP) removes the C-terminal pro-peptides of procollagens and also processes other matrix proteins. The major splice form of the PCP is termed BMP1 (bone morphogenetic protein 1). Active BMP1 is composed of an astacin-like protease domain, three CUB (complement, sea urchin Uegf, BMP1) domains and one EGF-like domain. Here we compare the recombinant human full-length BMP1 with its isolated proteolytic domain to further unravel the functional influence of the CUB and EGF domains. We prove a C^1-connecting lemma for pseudo-orbits of diffeomorphisms on compact manifolds. We explore some consequences for C^1-generic diffeomorphisms. For instance, C^1-generic conservative diffeomorphisms are transitive. Nous montrons un lemme de connexion C^1 pour les pseudo-orbites des diffeomorphismes des varietes compactes. We report here the purification of a functionally active recombinant glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) from Candida albicans. The GAPDH protein encoded by the TDH1 gene was obtained as a glutathione S-transferase fusion protein by expression in the vector pGEX-4T-3, and purified by affinity chromatography and thrombin digestion. The purified protein displays GAPDH enzymatic activity (42 micromol NADH min(-1) mg(-1)) as well as the laminin and fibronectin binding activities previously described. Usher type I (USH1), the most severe form, is characterized by profound congenital deafness, constant vestibular dysfunction and prepubertal-onset of retinitis pigmentosa. The transport of the photopigment rhodopsin from the inner segment to the photosensitive outer segment of vertebrate photoreceptor cells has been one of the main remaining mysteries in photoreceptor cell biology. Because of the lack of any direct evidence for the pathway through the photoreceptor cilium, alternative extracellular pathways have been proposed. Our primary aim in the present study was to resolve rhodopsin trafficking from the inner to the outer segment.
