Development of digital health messages for rural populations in Tanzania: Multi- And interdisciplinary approach

2021

Background Health workers have traditionally delivered health promotion and education to rural communities in the Global South in paper leaflet formats or orally. With the rise of digital technologies, health promotion and education can be provided in innovative and more effective formats, which are believed to have a higher impact on disease prevention and treatment. Objective The aim of this tutorial is to illustrate how a multi- and interdisciplinary approach can be applied in the design process of digital health messages for use in the Global South. Methods The multi- and interdisciplinary team of the Non-discriminating access for Digital Inclusion (DigI) project digitalized and custom…

The effects of rationing home-help services in Spain and Sweden: a comparative analysis

1999

In both Spain and Sweden the most important public support for older people that is provided in their own homes are home-help services. In Sweden, these programmes were expanded in years of economic growth but recently have radically declined. Spain still strives to expand them in spite of financial problems. Both countries ration these services but in different ways. Spain provides relatively few hours of help with household tasks, primarily to poor old people. At present, one to two per cent of the 65-plus population is covered. Local government is still trying to reach more people to relieve pressure on limited institutional care. Sweden continues to cut down the service from the present…

”Paljo luvataan, mutta ei sitten kuitenkaan” : muistisairasta läheistään hoitavien kokemuksia omaishoidon tuen hakemisen ongelmista

2022

Omaishoidon tuki on keino vastata kasvaviin palvelutarpeisiin. Kaikki muistisairaiden omaishoitajat eivät kuitenkaan hae tai saa omaishoidon tukea. Artikkelissa kuvataan omaishoitajien kokemuksia omaishoidon tuen hakemisesta. Tulosten mukaan omaishoidon tuen hakeminen voi olla monimutkainen prosessi, jota edistävät ja hidastavat monet tekijät. Puutteellisen palvelutarpeen arvioinnin vuoksi omaishoitajat voivat jäädä jopa kokonaan tuen ulkopuolelle. peerReviewed

2017

Background. Unmet needs in the medical care of high-need patients may increase costs due to the use of emergency departments (EDs) instead of primary care. Objectives. To establish the possible correlation between the unmet needs of patients and the number of hospitalizations, and the probability of influence of the former aspect on the latter, and to analyze the level of satisfied needs of ED patients in relation to sociodemographic data. Material and methods. An original questionnaire and a modified version of the Camberwell Assessment of Need Short Appraisal Schedule (CANSAS) were used to assess the level of satisfaction of the social, medical, psychological and environmental needs of 15…

To Move or Not to Move. That is the question.

2011

International audience; In the same way that scientists have to "Publish or perish!", medical students, residents and young doctors in France have to "Move or perish!". "La mobilité" (professional mobility) has become a key word in French medical circles. Thus, in 2003, a group of English teachers at the Dijon School of Medicine and at ENS-Lettres et Sciences Humaines (Lyon) conducted a mobility-related needs assessment to identify how we could help young professionals prepare for their stay abroad in English-speaking environments. To assess the actual needs of French professionals, we first contacted a cardiovascular surgeon, Eric Steinmetz, who had spent one year as a research fellow in S…
