Most variation in behavior is regulated by genes; nevertheless the mechanisms behind maintenance of genetic diversity at behavioral loci have remained mainly elusive in natural populations. I studied in my thesis selection mechanisms of two genes associated with socio-sexual behavior, arginine vasopressin receptor 1a (Avpr1) and oxytocin receptor (Oxtr) in bank vole (Myodes glareolus). In this paper, we have used the exceptional circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic as a window for investigating the ambivalent, stereotypical and often-incongruent portrayals of exceptional vulnerability and resilient self-management that define the self-constructions available for older adults. Tensions and resilience: the experiences of adult foster-care workers in Finland

This article examines adult foster care for older people in Finland. This is a semi-formal service in which older people are cared for by foster carers who are remunerated for their work by the local municipality. In the article, the tensions and resources of resilience of foster-care work are analysed. The data consist of 12 thematic interviews with foster carers. The results suggest that foster-care work is emotionally draining and has adverse effects on social relationships. However, foster carers see caring as purposeful, they see themselves as professionals and they have enough social resources.

On olemassa vahva yhteisymmärrys siitä, että ikääntyneen henkilön omaishoitaminen voi olla kuormittavaa. Omaishoitoa tuetaan erilaisilla sijaishoitopalveluilla. Niiden vaikutuksista omaishoitajien kuormittumiseen ei kuitenkaan olla yksimielisiä. Sijaishoitopalveluiden käyttömäärissä ja käytön useudessa on suuria vaihteluja omaishoidettavien välillä. Biohiilen vaikutus torjunta-aineiden ja ravinteiden huuhtoutumiseen peltomaassa : esimerkkeinä glyfosaatti ja fosfori

Tässä työssä tutkittiin kasvihuonekokein kolmessa eri lämpötilassa (300, 375 ja 475 ºC) tuotetun koivubiohiilen (80 tn/ha) vaikutusta glyfosaatin, aminometyylifosfonihapon (AMPA) ja fosforin (PO4-P) huuhtoutumiseen maaperästä. Lisäksi esiteltiin glyfosaatin ja fosforin keskinäistä vuorovaikutusta maaperässä sekä biohiilen tuotantoon liittyvien muuttujien vaikutusta torjunta-aineiden ja ravinteiden huuhtoutumiseen. Tutkimuksen mukaan maaperän biohiililisäykset vähentävät glyfosaatin huuhtoutumista keskimäärin 71 % ja AMPA:n huuhtoutumista keskimäärin 36 %. Suomalaisista iäkkäistä ihmisistä noin kolmannes kärsii yksinäisyydestä. Yksinäisyydellä tiedetään olevan kielteinen yhteys hyvinvointiin, toimintakykyyn ja terveyteen, jolloin sen lievittäminen on keskeistä. Tällä pro gradu -tutkielmalla selvitettiin, muuttuuko osallistujien yksinäisyyden ja ystävyyden kokemus Ystäväpiiri-ryhmätoiminnan seurauksena sekä onko ikä, sukupuoli ja yksin tai jonkun kanssa asuminen yhteydessä mahdolliseen muutoksen kokemukseen. Tutkimus toteutettiin yhden ryhmän ennen–jälkeen tutkimusasetelmana. Aineisto kerättiin kyselylomakkeella ennen ryhmätoiminnan alkua ja sen loputtua.
