Efficiency of Target Larvicides Is Conditioned by ABC-Mediated Transport in the Zoonotic Nematode Anisakis pegreffii
2018
Anisakiasis is among the most significant emerging foodborne parasitoses contracted through consumption of thermally unprocessed seafood harboring infective Anisakis species larvae. The efficacy of the currently applied anthelminthic therapy in humans and in model organisms has not proven sufficient, so alternative solutions employing natural compounds combined with chemical inhibitors should be explored. By testing toxicity of the natural monoterpenes nerolidol and farnesol and the conventional anthelminthics abamectin and levamisole in the presence/absence of MK-571 and Valspodar, which inhibit the ABC transporter proteins multidrug resistance protein (MRP-like) and P-glycoprotein (P-gp),…
The chemical composition of the aerial parts essential oil of S. spreitzenhoferi Heldr. (Lamiaceae) growing in Kythira island (Greece)
2022
Stachys is a large genus of economically important plants belonging to Lamiaceae family that includes about 300 species as annual or perennial herbs. Several species of this genus are extensively used in various traditional medicines. In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Stachys spreitzenhoferi Heldr., a very rare plant, belonging to Section Candidae, endemic of South Greece and collected in the island of Kythira, was analysed by GC-MS. No one reports have been previously published on this species. The result showed the presence of large quantity of diterpenoids with manoyl oxide (22.1%), as the most abundant component. Other metabolites pr…
Determination of key odorant compounds in freshly distilled Cognac using GC-O, GC-MS, and sensory evaluation
2004
This aim of this work was to identify the odorant compounds responsible for the typical sensory descriptors attributed to freshly distilled Cognac spirits, not matured in barrels. Panelists were first selected and trained for gas chromatography−olfactometry. Among the 150 volatile compounds identified by gas chromatography−mass spectrometry analysis, only 34 are mainly responsible for the odors detected in the spirits. The “butter” descriptor is explained by the presence of diacetyl, the “hay” descriptor by nerolidol, the “grass” descriptor mainly by Z-3-hexen-1-ol, but also by other compounds, the “pear” and “banana” descriptors by 2- and 3-methylbutyl acetates, the “rose” descriptor by 2-…
The aroma of strawberry (Fragaria ananassa): Characterisation of some cultivars and influence of freezing
1990
The volatiles of six strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch) cultivars, both fresh and deep-frozen, were isolated by direct dichloromethane extraction. Sixty compounds were identified and quantified by GC—MS. Characterisation of cultivars was achieved by applying principal component analysis to the chromatographic data. Great differences were observed. Maxim and Directeur Paul Wallbaum are rather low in volatiles while Gariguette and Tioga are rich in mesifurane (2,5-dimethyl-4-methoxy-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one), furaneol' (2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one) and nerolidol. Esters are the major compounds in Senga Sengana and Vicomtesse Hericart de Thury. This last cultivar is also chara…
Sex-pairing pheromones and reproductive isolation in three sympatric Cornitermes species (Isoptera, Termitidae, Syntermitinae)
2011
International audience; The species-specificity of pairing has been studied in three sympatric Neotropical termites: Cornitermes bequaerti, Cornitermes cumulans and Cornitermes silvestrii (Termitidae, Syntermitinae). Bioassays showed that sex attraction was highly species-specific between C. bequaerti and C cumulans but not between C. cumulans and C. silvestrii. The sex-pairing pheromone of the three species is secreted by the tergal glands of female alates. It consists of a common compound (3Z,6Z,8E)-dodeca-3,6,8-trien-1-ol. In C. bequaerti, this polyunsaturated alcohol is the only compound of the sex-pairing pheromone, whereas it is associated with the oxygenated sesquiterpene (E)-nerolid…
Oplopanone derivatives monoterpene glycosides from Artemisia sieberi
1993
Abstract The aerial parts of Artemisia sieberi yielded three new oplopanone derivatives, three new monoterpene glycosides, a new germacrane alcohol and a monoterpene acid related to nerolidol.
Oxygenated nerolidol esters and eudesmane acids fromInula viscosa
1991
Abstract The aerial parts of Inula viscosa yielded three new esters of 9-hydroxynerolidol and two new eudesmane acids, along with several known compounds.
