Multilayer Network Model of Movie Script

Network models have been increasingly used in the past years to support summarization and analysis of narratives, such as famous TV series, books and news. Inspired by social network analysis, most of these models focus on the characters at play. The network model well captures all characters interactions, giving a broad picture of the narration’s content. A few works went beyond by introducing additional semantic elements, always captured in a single layer network. Modelling patterns of the spatial incidence of diseases using local environmental factors has been a growing problem in the last few years. Geostatistical models have become popular lately because they allow estimating and predicting the underlying disease risk and relating it with possible risk factors. Our approach to these models is based on the fact that the presence/absence of a disease can be expressed with a hierarchical Bayesian spatial model that incorporates the information provided by the geographical and environmental characteristics of the region of interest. Uncertainty in sewer sediment deposit modelling: detailed vs simplified modelling approaches.

Abstract The paper presents the results of a study in which the uncertainty levels associated with a detailed and a simplified/parsimonious sewer sediment modelling approach have been compared. The detailed approach used an Infoworks CS sewer network model combined with a user developed sediment transport code and the simplified approach used a conceptual sewer flow and quality model. The two approaches have been applied to a single case study sewer network and the simulation results compared. Permeability network model for non-crimp fabrics

In this work a global permeability model is developed and applied to a biaxial Non-crimp stitched fabric (NCF). This model focuses on a detailed meso-scale description of the fabric geometry, which takes into account the local permeability distribution in a fabric due to perturbations of the geometry as well as the geometrical features which arise from the stitching process. It is shown in this work that these features significantly affects the global permeability. The influence of the amount and type of perturbation of a fabric is also studied in this work. Exponential Transients in Continuous-Time Symmetric Hopfield Nets

We establish a fundamental result in the theory of continuous-time neural computation, by showing that so called continuous-time symmetric Hopfield nets, whose asymptotic convergence is always guaranteed by the existence of a Liapunov function may, in the worst case, possess a transient period that is exponential in the network size. A Statistical Approach to Permeability of Clustered Fibre Reinforcements

The focus is set on mesoscale modelling of permeability of real fabrics used in composite manufacturing. Of particular interest is the effect of expected perturbations from perfect geometries, such as fibre bundle crimp, on the permeability. To start with, variational methods are used to calculate the permeability of individual gaps between fibre bundles. Based on this study a network of unit cells is formed enabling studies of two-and three-dimensional flow through the structure. Coarsened Lattice Model for Random Granular Systems

In random systems consisting of grains with size distributions the transport properties are difficult to explore by network models. However, the concentration dependence of effective conductivity and its critical properties can be considered within coarsened lattice model proposed that takes into account information from experimentally known size histograms. For certain classes of size distributions the specific local arrangements of grains can induce either symmetrical or unsymmetrical critical behaviour at two threshold concentrations. Using histogram related parameters the non-monotonic behaviour of the conductor-insulator and conductor-superconductor threshold is demonstrated.

This paper attempts to solve the problem of searching minimum production order completion time variants by means of stochastic logical structures with all cost curve descent points and corresponding minimum-cost schedules. The analysis presented in this paper considers scheduling of unique and small batch production, predominantly to order, which accounts for changing requirements of the customer, the complexity and long production process makespan including its technical preparation.
