Bank-firm credit network in Japan. An analysis of a bipartite network

We present an analysis of the credit market of Japan. The analysis is performed by investigating the bipartite network of banks and firms which is obtained by setting a link between a bank and a firm when a credit relationship is present in a given time window. In our investigation we focus on a community detection algorithm which is identifying communities composed by both banks and firms. We show that the clusters obtained by directly working on the bipartite network carry information about the networked nature of the Japanese credit market. The effect of geographical distance on similarity in parasite communities of freshwater fish has received considerable attention in recent years, and it has become evident that these apparently simple relationships are influenced by, among other things, colonization ability of parasites and degree of connectivity between the populations. Optimizing auditory images and distance metrics for self‐organizing timbre maps*

Abstract The effect of using different auditory images and distance metrics on the final configuration of a self‐organized timbre map is examined by comparing distance matrices, obtained from simulations, with a similarity rating matrix, obtained using the same set of stimuli as in the simulations. Gradient images, which are intended to represent idealizations of physiological gradient maps in the auditory pathway, are constructed. The optimal auditory image and distance metric, with respect to the similarity rating data, are searched using the gradient method.

The concept of molecular similarity is one of the most central in the fields of predictive toxicology and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) research. Many toxicological responses result from a multimechanistic process and, consequently, structural diversity among the active compounds is likely. Combining this knowledge, we introduce similarity boosted QSAR modeling, where we calculate molecular descriptors using similarities with respect to representative reference compounds to aid a statistical learning algorithm in distinguishing between different structural classes. DISTATIS: The Analysis of Multiple Distance Matrices

In this paper we present a generalization of classical multidimensional scaling called DISTATIS which is a new method that can be used to compare algorithms when their outputs consist of distance matrices computed on the same set of objects. The method first evaluates the similarity between algorithms using a coefficient called the RV coefficient. From this analysis, a compromise matrix is computed which represents the best aggregate of the original matrices. The discussion about relationship between prime and target has contributed to the mechanism of priming effect and object recognition. Nevertheless, the role of relationship between mask and target in those cognitive processes remains unquestioned. In the present study, we aim to investigate how mask-target hierarchical relationship may affect word priming and familiarity, by using the masked repetition paradigm and manipulating three hierarchical relationship between mask and target. The RepeatsDB database (URL: https://repeatsdb.org/) provides annotations and classification for protein tandem repeat structures from the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Protein tandem repeats are ubiquitous in all branches of the tree of life. The accumulation of solved repeat structures provides new possibilities for classification and detection, but also increasing the need for annotation. Fuzzy Metric Approach to Aggregation of Risk Levels

In this paper we propose a special construction of a general aggregation operator. The construction allows to aggregate fuzzy sets taking into account the distance between elements of the universe. We consider the case when fuzzy sets to be aggregated represent the risk level evaluation by several experts. We describe how the proposed construction could be applied for risk level assessment in the case when a strong fuzzy metric is used to characterize the similarity of objects under evaluation.
