Topology management in unstructured P2P networks using neural networks

2007

Resource discovery is an essential problem in peer-to-peer networks since there is no centralized index in which to look for information about resources. In a pure P2P network peers act as servers and clients at the same time and in the Gnutella network for example, peers know only their neighbors. In addition to developing different kinds of resource discovery algorithms, one approach is to study the different topologies or structures of the P2P network. In many cases topology management is based on either technical characteristics of the peers or their interests based on the previous resource queries. In this paper, we propose a topology management algorithm which does not predetermine fa…

Concurrent TMS-fMRI for causal network perturbation and proof of target engagement

2021

The experimental manipulation of neural activity by neurostimulation techniques overcomes the inherent limitations of correlative recordings, enabling the researcher to investigate causal brain-behavior relationships. But only when stimulation and recordings are combined, the direct impact of the stimulation on neural activity can be evaluated. In humans, this can be achieved non-invasively through the concurrent combination of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Concurrent TMS-fMRI allows the assessment of the neurovascular responses evoked by TMS with excellent spatial resolution and full-brain coverage. This enables the functional ma…

mGluR control of interneuron output regulates feedforward tonic GABAA inhibition in the visual thalamus

2011

Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) play a crucial role in regulation of phasic inhibition within the visual thalamus. Here we demonstrate that mGluR-dependent modulation of interneuron GABA release results in dynamic changes in extrasynaptic GABAA receptor (eGABAAR)-dependent tonic inhibition in thalamocortical (TC) neurons of the rat dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN). Application of the group I selective mGluR agonist dihydroxyphenylglycine produces a concentration-dependent enhancement of both IPSC frequency and tonic GABAA current (IGABAtonic) that is due to activation of both mGluR1a and mGluR5 subtypes. In contrast, group II/III mGluR activation decreases both IPSC freque…

PSA-NCAM is expressed in immature, but not recently generated, neurons in the adult cat cerebral cortex layer II

2011

Neuronal production persists during adulthood in the dentate gyrus and the olfactory bulb, where substantial numbers of immature neurons can be found. These cells can also be found in the paleocortex layer II of adult rodents, but in this case most of them have been generated during embryogenesis. Recent reports have described the presence of similar cells, with a wider distribution, in the cerebral cortex of adult cats and primates and have suggested that they may develop into interneurons. The objective of this study is to verify this hypothesis and to explore the origin of these immature neurons in adult cats. We have analyzed their distribution using immunohistochemical analysis of the …

Signal transduction pathways involved in the mechanical responses to protease-activated receptors in rat colon.

2002

Recording simultaneously in vitro the changes of endoluminal pressure (index of circular muscle activity) and isometric tension (index of longitudinal muscle activity), we examined the mechanisms responsible for the apamin-sensitive relaxant and contractile responses induced by protease-activated receptor (PAR)-1 and PAR-2 activating peptides, SFLLRN-NH2 and SLIGRL-NH2, respectively, in rat colon. In the circular muscle, the inhibitory effects of SFLLRN-NH2 and SLIGRL-NH2 were significantly reduced by ryanodine, an inhibitor of Ca2+ release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, but unaffected by 1-[6-[[17beta-methoxyestra-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-yl]amino]hexyl]-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione (U73122), a phosph…

PGAC: A Parallel Genetic Algorithm for Data Clustering

2005

Cluster analysis is a valuable tool for exploratory pattern analysis, especially when very little a priori knowledge about the data is available. Distributed systems, based on high speed intranet connections, provide new tools in order to design new and faster clustering algorithms. Here, a parallel genetic algorithm for clustering called PGAC is described. The used strategy of parallelization is the island model paradigm where different populations of chromosomes (called demes) evolve locally to each processor and from time to time some individuals are moved from one deme to another. Experiments have been performed for testing the benefits of the parallelisation paradigm in terms of comput…

An invasive species may be better than none: invasive signal and native noble crayfish have similar community effects

2014

14 pages; International audience; Human activities have resulted in the decline of native crayfish and promoted the spread of invasive crayfish species in European fresh waters, threatening ecosystem structure and functioning. We compared effects of native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus), invasive signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) and of the absence of crayfish on leaf litter breakdown and invertebrate prey density and biomass in stream ecosystems. In microcosm experiments, invertebrate shredder density was significantly reduced by crayfish presence but similarly affected by the two crayfish species. While crayfish did not directly influence leaf litter breakdown, their presence r…

Predicting lorawan behavior. How machine learning can help

2020

Large scale deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) networks are becoming reality. From a technology perspective, a lot of information related to device parameters, channel states, network and application data are stored in databases and can be used for an extensive analysis to improve the functionality of IoT systems in terms of network performance and user services. LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is one of the emerging IoT technologies, with a simple protocol based on LoRa modulation. In this work, we discuss how machine learning approaches can be used to improve network performance (and if and how they can help). To this aim, we describe a methodology to process LoRaWAN packets a…
