Investment Decision Making and Risk

2013

Abstract The aim of the paper is to present how investment decisions are made and what investment risk is, what role it has in the investment decision. The decision itself is a subjective act, but it is based on both subjective and objective factors. Risk is an important component of every investment, thus it is necessary to analyse it as both, the objective component of the investment, and as the subjective factor of the investment decision making.

Emotions in Economic Decision Making: A Multidisciplinary Approach

2013

AbstractAccording to classical and neoclassical economics, decisions are made based on information and cost-benefit analysis. In reality, the decision making process is much more complex than previously thought, because it also involves psychological factors. Decision making is interdisciplinary, researched by psychologists, sociologists, economists, philosophers, neuroscientists and others. These fields have distinctive and common concepts about decision making. The aim of this paper is to identify what role emotions play in the economic decision making process. The paper focuses on describing and explaining the interconnection of sciences, such as economics, psychology and neuroscience, b…

Hacia un modelo de neuro-responsabilidad: una perspectiva de la responsabilidad social desde el desarrollo humano

2011

The rise of neuroscience's study, based on the technological development that allows to investigate brain processes by neuroimaging, has led to a new research area which after the neuro prefix covers studies such as neuroeconomics, neuromarketing and social neuroscience . This paper provides a review based on different research projects with the aim of presenting social responsibility, often conceptually linked to organizational paradigms, as an evolutionary trend of neurological human development, which could be called Neuro-responsibility El auge del estudio desde la neurociencia, con base en el desarrollo tecnológico que permite investigar los procesos cerebrales mediante la neuro-imágen…

The role of the brain in financial decisions : a viewpoint on neuroeconomics

2018

In this article, we explain the important role neuroscience plays in economic and financial environments. Hence, we present neuroeconomics as a way to describe how decision-making processes affect brain activity, focusing especially on the importance of economic and financial decisions. We answer some questions regarding the role of emotions in finance, the psychological factors present in financial markets, and how neuropsychological stimuli affect our economic decisions. We conclude by citing the main research in the area of neuroscience in financial decision-making processes, and highlight further research projects in these areas.

Rational Choice Theory and the Environment: Variants, Applications, and New Trends

2010

Rational choice theory (RCT) is a research paradigm based on methodological individualism. Collective phenomena are explained by assumptions about the behavior of (subjectively) rational individual or corporate actors. In environmental research, RCT is used to predict ecological perceptions, attitudes and behavior on the micro level, and to shed light on environmental outcomes on the macro level. The most fundamental insight from RCT is that environmental problems are often the result of a social dilemma, that is, individuals’ purposive action leads to unintended negative collective consequences. This chapter addresses variants of RCT including game theory, shows applications in the field o…
