We evaluated analgesic efficacy and safety for postoperative/chronic pain, disability, and sleep quality in patients who underwent spine surgery administered with PGB, or not, during the presurgical and postsurgical periods. Imaging photoplethysmography for assessment of chronic pain patients

In present pilot study application of multi-spectral imaging photoplethysmography for assessment of chronic pain patients during topical skin heating test was proposed. Photoplethysmography signal was recorded at 420nm, 530nm and 810nm illumination from the skin and corresponding perfusion indexes and perfusion maps were calculated. The novel parameter-PPGflare index was introduced and compared in neuropathic patients and healthy volunteers. Preliminary results suggest that neuropathic patients exhibited significantly lower PPGflare index, and that local heating substantially change PPG waveform at heat exposed skin region. Tissue injury induces enhanced pain sensation to light touch and punctate stimuli in adjacent, uninjured skin (secondary hyperalgesia). Whereas hyperalgesia to light touch (allodynia) is mediated by A-fibre low-threshold mechanoreceptors, hyperalgesia to punctate stimuli may be mediated by A- or C-fibre nociceptors. To disclose the relative contributions of A- and C-fibres to the hyperalgesia to punctate stimuli, the superficial radial nerve was blocked by pressure at the wrist in nine healthy subjects.
