Influence of the muscle mode of contraction on the exercise induced neuroplastic effects

2018

Along with cardiovascular and neuromuscular changes, mono-articular and locomotor exercises may induced neuroplastic changes from muscles involved, or non-involved, in the exercise. If the effect of exercise intensity or duration on neuroplastic changes has been previously investigated, the effect of the mode of muscle contraction remains unclear. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of the mode of muscle contraction on neuroplastic changes induced a locomotor or a single-joint exercise. The first study showed that the increase in the corticospinal excitability of a non-exercised hand muscle, observed after a walking/ running exercise, was not modulated by the knee extensor…

Impact des modalités d'un exercice physique sur la neuroplasticité. Focus sur les sources de BDNF

2019

Physical exercise (EX) is recognized as the most potent non-pharmacological strategy to positively enhance brain health. From Human and animal studies there is a consensus to involve brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin strongly expressed in response to EX and implicated in neuroplasticity mechanisms. Mainly expressed by neurons, BDNF is also expressed by endothelial and muscle cells. Largely sought during a physical effort, endothelium and skeletal muscle could be involved in positive effects induced by EX. Although there is a real consensus about BDNF and cerebral effect of EX, the typology of the better regimen of EX to enhance cerebral plasticity is not known. In thi…

Microglial and BDNF impact on the induction of the post ischemic neuroplasticity

2011

Evidences showing that under certain circumstances, inflammatory response could be neuroprotective and could also promote adult neurogenesis are growing. In this context, the objective of this work was to investigate the impact of microglial cells in the neuroplastic events. Rats were subjected to photothrombotic ischemia and microglial cells activation was blocked by the mean of poly(ADP-ribose)polymérase-1 (PARP-1) inhibition using 3- aminobenzamide (3-AB) since this protein has been shown to play a major role in this activation. Our results show that PARP-1 activity reduction was associated with a strong repression of the acute microglial activation. Beside, 3-AB treated animals exhibite…
