Measurements of the volume and density of intracerebral tumors by CT following therapy.
1982
For the interpretation of curative measures in patients with cerebral tumors CT is of increasing importance. The therapeutic effects can be demonstrated by close follow-up studies without any of the disadvantage of invasive neuroradiological methods. Our investigations of 125 patients with cerebral tumors are based on volume and density determinations. The CT studies of removed or inoperable tumors followed by radiation and/or cytostatic therapy prove that the best results follow a combination of both. In the present cases however, if CT proves postoperatively, at the end of radiation or at the beginning of the application of cytostatics that there is a residual mass, a complete remission c…
Vertigo and multiple sclerosis: aspects of differential diagnosis.
2002
Equilibrium disorders caused by involvement of brainstem and cerebellar structures are common in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), but peripheral conditions such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) can be sometimes confused with those of a central origin. Therefore, an accurate otoneurologic investigation paying attention to differential diagnosis aspects should be performed in these subjects. Among available diagnostic tools, electro-oculography, posturography and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) are especially suited to assess vestibulo-oculomotor and vestibulospinal systems. This paper briefly describes the most recent otoneurologic diagnostic strategies for …
Brain energy metabolism in global brain oedema.
1978
Different degrees of severity in global brain oedema were induced by varying amounts of water intoxication (50, 100, 150, and 200 ml Aqua dest./kg b.wt. intravenously) in groups of six cats, which were functionally nephrectomized. Animals loaded with physiological saline and sham-operated served as controls. Two hours following the water load, the tissue concentrations of CrP, ATP, ADP, AMP, pyruvate, glucose, and lactate were determined by optical enzymatic analysis. The results show disturbances in brain energy metabolism dependent on the severity of the brain oedema. The high energy compounds and in consequence the ATP/ADP-ratio, and respectively the energy charge potential, fall in dire…
Therapeutic considerations in cerebellopontine angle lipomas inducing hemifacial spasm.
2000
Lipoma is a very rare tumour at the cerebellopontine angle. We report a case of incomplete hemifacial spasm, associated with a lipoma involving and compressing both facial and acoustic nerves at their origin in the brainstem. The patient was treated with medical therapy (botulinum toxin A) and surgery. We present a review of the last ten years of the literature, with particular regard to management.

Disability assessment using Google Maps.
2021
Objectives To evaluate the concordance between Google Maps® application (GM®) and clinical practice measurements of ambulatory function (e.g., Ambulation Score (AS) and respective Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS)) in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). Materials and methods This is a cross-sectional multicenter study. AS and EDSS were calculated using GM® and routine clinical methods; the correspondence between the two methods was assessed. A multinomial logistic model is investigated which demographic (age, sex) and clinical features (e.g., disease subtype, fatigue, depression) might have influenced discrepancies between the two methods. Results Two hundred forty-three pwMS were …
Treatment of multiple sclerosis with interferon beta in clinical practice: 2-year follow-up data from the South Italy Mobile MRI Project.
2006
This follow-up study assessed the 2-year clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) outcomes of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) originally enrolled in an MRI study conducted at eight centres in south Italy (the South Italy Mobile MRI Project). Of the 597 MS patients recruited at baseline, 391 returned for the follow-up study. Of these, 363 provided 2-year clinical and MRI follow-up data, and 215 were still undergoing treatment with one of four interferon beta regimens: Avonex, 30 mcg intramuscularly once weekly; Betaferon, 250 mcg subcutaneously (sc) every other day; Rebif 22 mcg sc three times weekly (tiw; Rebif 22); or Rebif 44 mcg sc tiw (Rebif 44). Over the 2-year follow-up per…
Unilateral Duane retraction syndrome. Report of a case.
1986
A case of Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) is reported. The major clinical subclasses of the syndrome and the most convincing pathogenetic hypothesis are briefly discussed.

Topodiagnostik ischämisch bedingter Dysarthrophonien
2000
In einer prospektiven Studie untersuchetn wir 106 konsekutiv eingeschlossene Patienten mit apoplektiform auftretender Dysarthrophonie aufgrund eines im MRT gesicherten singluaren, nicht raumfordernden Infarkts.
