Detailed study of the neutral-current neutrino–nucleus scattering off the stable Mo isotopes
2012
Abstract For neutrino detection and for various applications in astrophysics the knowledge of the nuclear responses to astrophysical neutrinos is crucial. Recent studies of neutrino interactions with the 100 Mo nucleus and the other stable molybdenum isotopes are important for the planned MOON (Mo Observatory of Neutrinos) detector. To this aim, in the present work we perform detailed nuclear structure calculations for the neutral-current neutrino–nucleus scattering off the stable molybdenum isotopes. We focus on the differential and total neutrino–nucleus cross sections as well as on flux averaged cross sections to various supernova neutrino spectra. We also propose a more efficient method…
Recent Developments in Neutrino/Antineutrino-Nucleus Interactions
2012
Recent experimental results and developments in the theoretical treatment of neutrino-nucleus interactions in the energy range of 1–10 GeV are discussed. Difficulties in extracting neutrino-nucleon cross sections from neutrino-nucleus scattering data are explained and significance of understanding nuclear effects for neutrino oscillation experiments is stressed. Detailed discussions of the status of two-body current contribution in the kinematic region dominated by quasielastic scattering and specific features of partonic nuclear effects in weak DIS scattering are presented.
Is a low-mass Z° in general SU (2) ⊗ U (1) gauge theories compatible with experiment?
1975
Abstract It is shown that any simple SU (2) ⊗ U (1) gauge theory with a Z° mass much lower than the W ± mass leads to serious conflicts with experiment. The case of deep inelastic neutral current reactions is discussed in greater detail.
Constraining neutrino oscillation parameters with current solar and atmospheric data
2002
We analyze the impact of recent solar, atmospheric and reactor data in the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, taking into account that both the solar nu_e and the atmospheric nu_mu may convert to a mixture of active and sterile neutrinos. We use the most recent global solar neutrino data, including the 1496-day Super-K neutrino data sample, and we investigate in detail the impact of the SNO neutral current, spectral and day/night data by performing also an analysis using only the charged current rate from SNO. The implications of the first 145.1 days of KamLAND data on the determination of the solar neutrino parameters are also discussed in detail. We confirm the clear pr…
Status of three-neutrino oscillations after the SNO-salt data
2003
We perform a global analysis of neutrino oscillation data in the framework of three neutrinos, including the recent improved measurement of the neutral current events at SNO. In addition to all current solar neutrino data we take into account the reactor neutrino data from KamLAND and CHOOZ, the atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande and MACRO, as well as the first spectral data from the K2K long baseline accelerator experiment. The up-to-date best fit values and allowed ranges of the three-flavour oscillation parameters are determined from these data. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the status of the small parameters alpha = Delta_m^2_Sol / Delta_m^2_Atm and sin^2(theta_13), whi…
Neutrino scattering off the stable cadmium isotopes: neutral-current processes
2014
In this work we present computed cross sections for the incoherent neutral-current neutrino scattering off the stable cadmium isotopes. The main focus is on supernova neutrinos. The nuclear states of the even-mass and odd-mass cadmium isotopes have been constructed using the quasiparticle random-phase approximation and the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model, respectively. The computed cross sections are folded with suitably parametrized Fermi–Dirac distributions of the supernova (anti)neutrinos energies to obtain realistic estimates of the nuclear responses to these neutrinos.
Neutral currents in atomic and nuclear physics
1990
Abstract The spin structure function of the proton measured by the EMC collaboration suggests an axial isoscalar neutral current for the nucleon. I study its implications for neutral current phenomena in atomic and nuclear physics. This includes parity-violating observables for transitions between hyperfine multiplets in light muonic atoms, selected inelastic neutrino nuclear reactions and the polarization asymmetry in electron scattering for isoscalar transitions. The neutrino-induced process 7 Li → 7 Li ∗ (0.478 MeV ) is particularly favourable for neutrino reactor experiments. I find that the axial isoscalar coupling extracted from the EMC measurement increases the neutrino cross section…

Search for flavor-changing-neutral-current D meson decays
2008
We study the flavor-changing-neutral-current process c to u mu+ mu- using 1.3 fb^-1 of p p bar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV recorded by the D0 detector operating at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We see clear indications of the Ds+ and D+ to phi pi+ to mu+ mu- pi+ final states with significance greater than four standard deviations above background for the D+ state. We search for the continuum decay of D+ to pi+mu+mu- in the dimuon invariant mass spectrum away from the phi resonance. We see no evidence of signal above background and set a limit of B(D+ to pi+mu+mu-) < 3.9 x 10^-6 at the 90% C.L. This limit places the most stringent constraint on new phenomena in the c to u mu+ mu- t…
