Light scattering in artificial fog and simulated with light scattering filter.

2009

Disability glare, affecting e.g. road safety at night, may result either from intraocular light scattering or from external conditions such as fog. Measurements were made of light scattering in fog and compared with intraocular straylight data for normal eyes and eyes with simulated cataract. All measurements were made with a direct compensation flicker method. To estimate light scattering levels in fog, straylight measurements were carried in a fog chamber for different densities of fog. Density was characterized by the meteorological term visibility V and ranged from 7 to 25. Test distance for measurements in the fog was constant at 5 m. Cataract eye conditions were simulated by placing a…

Control of solute concentrations in cloud and fog water by liquid water content

2000

We measured the concentrations of Cl^−, NO_3^−, and SO_4^(2−) in atmospheric cloudwater collected with a passive collector from a remote marine site and the concentrations of Cl^−, NO_3^−, SO_4^(2−), Na^+ and NH_4^+ in cloudwater from a continental site. At the continental site, an active rotating arm collector was employed for cloudwater collection. At both locations, we observed an inverse relationship between the measured ion concentrations and the liquid water content of the clouds. The product of the observed concentrations and the liquid water content, the cloudwater loading, was found to be nearly constant. A study of published cloudwater data showed that at the majority of the exami…

Prospective use of collected fog water in the restoration of degraded burned areas under dry Mediterranean conditions

2009

Abstract A mountainous plot located in the interior of the Valencia region (east coast of the Iberian Peninsula) was identified for reforestation using the fog-water collection potential prevailing in the area. Fog data were obtained by means of an instrument ensemble consisting of a passive cylindrical fog-water collector, a rain gauge, a wind direction and velocity sensor and a temperature and humidity probe. Preliminary results gave rise to the additional deployment of a low-cost 18-m 2 flat-panel collector connected to three 1000-l tanks for larger scale fog-water collection and storage. The 2007 annual rate of fog water that could be derived from the instrument ensemble amounted to 3.3…

Heart of Darkness: una sesión de logoterapia

2012

We will present how Heart of Darkness, the Joseph Conrad’s work, across the successive appearance of its main characters, will show us the death and the disease tied to the human traumatic experience. Across a way that goes towards the heart of darkness we will see how it seems to claim the therapeutic power of the word, the logo-therapy.
