Interdigital syphilis: a rare form of secondary syphilis

A 39-year-old man with bilateral painful erosions in his toe web spaces and on the penile shaft was misdiagnosed as having Gram-negative toe web infection, and treated with broad-spectrum oral antibiotics. Further evaluation revealed positive serological tests for syphilis. Pedal interdigital syphilis is a rare manifestation of secondary syphilis.

The therapeutic effect of the alpha 2-antagonist yohimbine in erectile dysfunction was studied in a double-blind placebo-controlled design. Thirty-one male patients underwent extensive clinical, urological, and psychiatric diagnosis and were dichotomically classified into an organic and a nonorganic subgroup. Following a 1-week placebo run-in period, patients were randomly assigned to a placebo or a verum group (yohimbine 15 mg daily) for a treatment period of 7 weeks. The Penile Plication Procedure: An Alternative Method for Straightening Penile Deviation

AbstractThe number of reported cases of congenital and acquired penile deviation is evidently increasing. We describe our experience with the penile plication procedure, which we used to treat 40 patients with penile deviation. Postoperatively, all patients regained the ability for sexual intercourse, with potency remaining unimpaired. Of the patients 96% were completely satisfied with the result of the operation. Sustained complications have not been observed. To avoid major trauma the surgical intervention should not include removal of ellipsoids from the penile tunica albuginea as proposed by Nesbit. Considering the role of hemorheology in coronary circulation, we studied blood viscosity in patients with juvenile myocardial infarction. We examined whole blood viscosity at high shear rate using the cone-on-plate viscosimeter Wells-Brookfield ½ LVT and at low shear rate employing a viscometer Contraves LS30 in 120 patients (aged <46 years) with myocardial infarction, at the initial stage and subsequently 3 and 12 months after. AbstractBetween July 1987 and February 1988 selective internal iliac angiography was performed before and after intracavernous injection of papaverine plus phentolamine in 43 patients with erectile dysfunction. In 63% of the patients stenosis or occlusion of the pudendal artery was found. The penile brachial index was calculated and duplex sonography with pulsed Doppler analysis was performed in 23 patients. The effects of the tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine on sleep EEG and nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) were investigated during a long-term study in a normal male control subject. During 21 consecutive days the subject received first placebo for 3 days, then stepwise increasing dosages of clomipramine for 10 days, and finally placebo after withdrawal for 8 days. Under clomipramine, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep was suppressed markedly; an REM rebound occurred after withdrawal. The effects of the optically active enantiomers of oxaprotiline (OXP), R(-) OXP and S(+) OXP, on depressive symptomatology and the sleep EEG were investigated in two separate exploratory studies. In addition, the neuroendocrine profile of both compounds was characterized in normal controls. In the patients treated with a daily oral dose of 150 mg S(+) OXP we found a Hamilton depression score that decreased from 29.1 +/- 1.8 (SEM) on day 0 to 14.7 +/- 3.2 on day 28 (P0.01). Condylomata acuminata (CA), or anogenital warts, is the most common sexually transmitted infection. Treatments for CA generally have suboptimal recurrence rates, which results in a need for repeated treatments and adds to the already negative impact on the patients’ quality of life. CA can present at the urethral meatus, which is a particularly challenging anatomic location from a therapeutic perspective. We report two cases of CA at the urethral meatus successfully treated with topical application of high-dose ingenol mebutate gel.

We report a case of a rare complication after trabeculotomy combined with a small trabeculectomy with mitomycin C in a young patient with juvenile glaucoma. The patient underwent uneventful surgery. However, postoperatively, he experienced a long-lasting hypotony with the need of 2 revision surgeries and 2 short episodes of high-intraocular pressure. He developed a fixed dilated pupil over time.
