The Protective Role of Prosocial Behaviors on Antisocial Behaviors: The Mediating Effects of Deviant Peer Affiliation

Prosocial behaviors, actions intended to help others, may serve a protective function against association with deviant peers and subsequent delinquent and antisocial behaviors. The present study examined the relations among specific types of prosocial behaviors, deviant peer affiliation, and delinquent and aggressive behaviors. Six hundred and sixty-six adolescents (46% girls; M age = 15.33, SD = .47) from Valencia, Spain completed questionnaires of prosocial behaviors, affiliation with deviant peers, antisocial behaviors, and aggression. In order to identify amyloid deposits in patients over 60 years of age (so-called senile amyloid), the following five tissues were investigated under the light and electron microscope : 1. pituitary gland, 2. pancreatic islets of Langerhans, 3. heart, 4. aorta, and 5. brain. In all an increasing incidence of amyloid deposits was found with increasing age, and in the brain a significant quantitative increase in amyloid deposits with increasing age was observed. Silicone-Silver Penile Prosthesis: Description, Operative Approach and Results

A silicone penile prosthesis in which silver wires are embedded to allow for voluntary bending of the penis for urination and resting position and for straightening for intercourse is described. The implantation is done via a hemicircular incision on the dorsum of the penis in the sulcus coronarius. Buck's fascia is identified and opened, and the corpora are dilated up to 30F. After the exact length is determined with a special sizer the prosthesis is slipped into each corpus cavernosum. The population structure and recruitment of Argulus coregoni was monitored at a Finnish fish farm during the open water periods of 1999 and 2001 by weekly sampling of attached argulids. In 2001 the numbers of rainbow trout examined increased in the autumn when the A. coregoni population was declining. When the water temperature exceeded 10 degrees C, at the end of May, A. coregoni egg hatching commenced. A mean number of 98 (S.D. +/- 5.4) juvenile A. coregoni was recorded on each fish, before the start of female egg laying in July 1999. The abundance of lice was lower in 2001. Argulus coregoni is an ectoparasite primarily infesting freshwater salmonids. Sexually reproducing parasites such as A. coregoni are confronted with a dilemma between finding a mate and the costs involved in doing so; if mating partners are unavailable on a host, by leaving to search for a mate on a new host, the parasite is exposed to risks such as predation and energy loss. The utilization of chemical cues could enhance the probability of finding a host and/or a suitable mating partner and thus decrease the level of costs associated with detachment from the host.
