Kinetics of solid-state fermentation of lupin with Rhizophus oligosporus based on nitrogen compounds balance

2021

Solid-state fermentation could be a potentially effective method for improving the nutritional value of legumes. The objective of this study was to explore this technology in Lupinus mutabilis, a species of lupin, using a strain of Rhizopus oligosporus mold for solid-state fermentation. Three L. mutabilis varieties (INIAP-450, INIAP-451, and Criollo) were evaluated, including the effect of the grain status (whole or ground) and integument or husk (presence or absence). Kinetic parameters of the fermentation process were studied to define the specific speed of nitrogen formation and the digestibility and nutritional quality of the resulting protein. After incubation at 28 °C for 96 h, the ti…

Trophic Transfer of Trace Elements in an Isotopically Constructed Food Chain From a Semi-enclosed Marine Coastal Area (Stagnone di Marsala, Sicily, M…

2012

Trace element accumulation is particularly important in coastal and transitional environments, which act as contaminant buffers between the continental and marine systems. We compared trace element transfer to the biota in two locations with different open-sea exposures in a semi-enclosed marine coastal area (Stagnone di Marsala, Sicily, Italy) using isotopically reconstructed food chains. Samples of sediment, macroalgae, seagrasses, invertebrates, fish, and bird feathers were sampled in July 2006 and analysed for stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes (δ(13)C, δ(15)N) and trace elements (arsenic [As], cadmium [Cd], total mercury [THg], and lead [Pb]). Trophic magnification factors were calcul…

Assembly of a planar, tricyclic B4N8 framework with s-indacene structure

2007

A neutral, formally 16π-electron, tricyclic tetrahydrazidotetraborane was obtained in a two-step procedure involving self-assembly of a dilithiodiborate with B4N8 framework and subsequent oxidation of the phenylborate moieties to boranes and biphenyl using Fe(II) as an oxidant. peerReviewed

Unusual B4N2C2 Ligand in a Ruthenium Pseudo-Triple-Decker Sandwich Complex Displaying Three Reversible Electron-Transfer Steps

2008

Open, sesame: The reaction of a heterobicyclic pentalenediyl-like Me2Ph4B4N2C2 dianion with [{(C5Me5)RuCl}4] cleaves the N[BOND]N bond of the ligand and affords a pseudo-triple-decker sandwich complex containing a B4N2C2 middle deck (see picture). This eight-membered ring features nearly linear B-N-B moieties and brings the ruthenium centers unusually close. Cyclic voltammetry indicates efficient electron delocalization over the framework. peerReviewed

Effect of Foliar Treatments with Calcium and Nitrogen on Oregano Yield

2023

Oregano, Origanum vulgare L., is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Oregano shows variations in biomass yield and essential oil (EO) content due to the influence of abiotic and biotic factors. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of different foliar applications based on calcium (Ca) and nitrogen (N) on morphological and productive parameters in oregano. Tests were carried out in Sicily (Italy) in 2020–2021. In each year, eight foliar applications were applied. Only flowers and leaves were used for the extraction of the EO. For all parameters in the study, except for plant height and inflorescence length, the highest values were found in treated …

Integration of physically based distributed hydrological model with model of carbon and nitrogen cycle: Luquillo Critical Zone Observatory, Puerto Ri…

2015

The dynamics of carbon and nitrogen cycles, increasingly influenced by human activities, are the key to the functioning of ecosystems. These cycles are influenced by the composition of the substrate, availability of nitrogen, the population of microorganisms, and by environmental factors. Therefore, land management and use, climate change, and nitrogen deposition patterns influence the dynamics of these macronutrients at the landscape scale. In this work a physically based distributed hydrological model, the tRIBS model, is coupled with a process-based multi-compartment model of the biogeochemical cycle to simulate the dynamics of carbon and nitrogen (CN) in the Mameyes River basin, Puerto …

RAVITA Technology : new innovation for combined phosphorus and nitrogen recovery

2018

Abstract Present phosphorus (P) recovery technologies mainly contain P recovery from sludge liquor or ash. These types of technologies are suitable for large wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR), digestion and/or incineration. In Finland and other Nordic countries, strict P discharge limits require chemical precipitation, thus EBPR alone is not sufficient. Ammonium recovery from wastewater, on the other hand, is not so often discussed. However, recovery from WWTP reject waters would decrease the energy demand of ammonium synthesis by Haber-Bosh technology and the energy demand of the WWTP's biological process. Theoretical study of nitrogen heterocyclics. IV. Molecular diagrams and carcinogenic activity of some naphthindoles

2010

Molecular-orbital calculations of structural static parameters (bond orders, π-electron densities and free valences) and dynamic indices (atom, ortho- and para-localization energies) are presented for a number of naphthindoles. The results are used to predict the chemical properties of the molecules. We have made a comparison of the carcinogenic inactivity and the static and dynamic complex indices used to characterize the K region in some benzindoles and these naphthindoles.
