Early plant succession in two abandoned cut-over peatland areas

1990

Initial stages of plant succession (from 0 to 8 or 9 yr) were studied on abandoned peat harvest sites of two adjacent areas in Finland. At the Mustasuo area only 13 field layer species, all perennials, and 3 ground layer species became established during that period and species composition stayed relatively constant. All species occurred sparsely with low biomass. The Riitasuo area was colonized by 43 field layer and 19 ground layer species during the first 8 yr of succession. In that area the originally plantless sites were totally covered by plants within a few years. Many of the first species to arrive were annuals, most of which were soon replaced by perennial species. The great differe…

Heme oxygenase-1 induction by nitric oxide in RAW 264.7 macrophages is upregulated by a cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitor.

2001

Unstimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages express negligible heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) protein but incubation with the nitric oxide (NO) donor spermine nonoate (SPNO) induced HO-1 and weakly cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein. This effect was potentiated by coincubation with the COX-2 selective inhibitor, SC58125. Cells incubated with SPNO showed a strong increase in HO-1 mRNA levels after 4 h with a significant potentiation in the presence of SC58125, which did not modify HO-1 mRNA stability. The induction of HO-1 by NO and its potentiation by anti-inflammatory agents may play a role in inflammatory and immune responses.

Hybrid ferrocene ligands (P, N) : synthesis, coordination to metals and applications in arylation coupling catalysis

2017

The research theme developed during this thesis concerns the development of new hybrid ferrocene hybrid (P, N) ligands with controlled conformation, robust and stable to air. These hybrid tetradent ligands comprise two types of coordinating functions with distinct steric and electronic properties. Their coordination chemistry with metals such as gold or palladium has been studied and some isolated Au (I) complexes have been used in the arylation coupling catalysis of aryl iodides.

Postnatal Overfeeding Causes Early Shifts in Gene Expression in the Heart and Long-Term Alterations in Cardiometabolic and Oxidative Parameters

2013

International audience; Background: Postnatal overfeeding (OF) in rodents induces a permanent moderate increase in body weight in adulthood. However, the repercussions of postnatal OF on cardiac gene expression, cardiac metabolism and nitro-oxidative stress are less well known. Methodology/Principal Findings: Immediately after birth, litters of C57BL/6 mice were either maintained at 10 (normal-fed group, NF), or reduced to 3 in order to induce OF. At weaning, mice of both groups received a standard diet. The cardiac gene expression profile was determined at weaning and cardiac metabolism and oxidative stress were assessed at 7 months. The cardiac expression of several genes, including membe…

Risk profiles in type 2 diabetes (metabolic syndrome): integration of IL-10 polymorphisms and laboratory parameters to identify vascular damages rela…

2010

Recently it has been reported that low serum IL-10 levels are associated with an increased susceptibility for metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We investigated whether the -1087G/A (rs1800896), -824C/T (rs1800871), -597C/A (rs1800872) IL-10 polymorphisms were associated with type 2 diabetes in a study on a cohort of Italian Caucasians comprising 490 type 2 diabetic and 349 control subjects. Stratifying the data according to IL-10 genotypes, trends for the progressive increase of glucose and neutrophil levels were observed in -1087GG vs. -1087GA vs. -1087AA positive diabetic patients (-1087GG < -1087GA < -1087AA). In addition, evaluating the laboratory parameters accord…

Dipole Moment Surface of the van der Waals Complex CH4–N2

2010

The interaction-induced dipole moment surface of the van der Waals CH(4)-N(2) complex has been calculated for a broad range of intermolecular separations R and configurations in the approximation of the rigid interacting molecules at the MP2 and CCSD(T) levels of theory using the correlation-consistent aug-cc-pVTZ basis set with the basis set superposition error correction. The simple model to account for the exchange effects in the range of small overlap of the electron shells of interacting molecules and the induction and dispersion interactions for large R has been suggested. This model allows describing the dipole moment of van der Waals complexes in analytical form both for large R, wh…

G2(MP2) Investigation of Alane-[X(CH3)3]- (X = C, Si, and Ge) and Alane-Y(CH3)3 (Y = N, P, and As) Interactions

2001

Alane-[X(CH3)3]- (X = C, Si, and Ge) and alane-Y(CH3)3 (Y = N, P, and As) have been investigated as donor−acceptor complex types at the G2(MP2) level of theory. The results show that the anionic complexes are more stable than the neutral ones. They show also that this stability decreases when going from carbon to germanium for [H3AlX(CH3)3]- complexes and from nitrogen to arsenic for H3AlY(CH3)3 complexes. The interaction diagrams prove that the evolution of complexation energy depends on the coordination mode. In fact, it is a result of two interaction types:  interaction between “a1” symmetry fragment molecular orbital (stabilizing) and interactions between “e” symmetry fragment molecular…

Long-term Additions of Organic Amendments in a Loire Valley Vineyard. I. Effects on Properties of a Calcareous Sandy Soil

2008

International audience; A long-term experiment (28 years) was conducted to Study the effects of various organic amendments oil physical, chemical, and biological properties of a sandy vineyard soil. Annual applications of either crushed pruned vine-wood (2 t/ha fresh wt), cattle manure (10 and 20 t/ha fresh wt.), or spent mushroom compost (8 and 16 t/ha fresh wt) were compared to all unamended treatment, In plots unamended for 28 years, total organic C (TOC) showed a slow and limited decrease (19%). For the highest rates of exogenous organic amendments, the increase in TOC reached a saturation Value after 20 years and carbon (C) sequestered after 28 years reached 30 Mg/ha. Final predicted T…
