Thermodynamic and19F NMR studies of antimony trifluoride in water

1993

Densities, specific heat capacities per unit volume and enthalpies of dilution at 25°C and osmotic coefficients at 37°C were measured for antimony trifluoride in water as functions of concentration. From the first three properties the apparent and partial molar volumes, heat capacities and relative enthalpies were derived. As well, pH measurements in water at 25°C and19F NMR spectra in water and methanol at 33°C were also carried out. All the thermodynamic properties together with the chemical shifts abruptly change in the very dilute concentration region (<0.1m) and, then, tend to a constant value. These trends have been rationalized through a simple model based on an equilibrium of dissoc…

Cooking influence on physico-chemical fruit characteristics of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)

2016

Physico-chemical traits of three eggplant genotypes ("Tunisina", "Buia" and "L 305") were evaluated before and after two cooking treatments (grilling and boiling). Different genotypes revealed different changes after cooking, with "Tunisina" showing a better retention of phytochemicals with respect to other two genotypes. The main physical phenomena were water loss during grilling, and dry matter loss after boiling. Chlorogenic acid, the main phenolic in eggplant, resulted higher in grilled samples, while delphinidin glycosides resulted more retained in boiled samples. Glycoalkaloids, thiols and biogenic amines were generally stable, while 5-hydroxy-methyl-furfural was found only in grilled…

Valorization of Wastewater from Table Olives: NMR Identification of Antioxidant Phenolic Fraction and Microwave Single-Phase Reaction of Sugary Fract…

2021

The table olive industry is producing a huge amount of wastewater, which is a post-processing cost and an environmental concern. The present study aims to valorize this processing by-product to obtain a value-added product, thereby enhancing resource efficiency and contributing to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this sense, a chemical reaction-based platform was developed to obtain valuable components, such as levulinic acid (LA) and 5-hydromethylfurfural (HMF). The products were then analyzed using NMR identification of the antioxidant phenolic fraction and microwave single-phase reaction of the sugary fraction. According to the results, the highest concentration of phen…

A novel compound of triphenyltin(IV) with N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-L-ornithine causes cancer cell death by inducing a p53-dependent activation of the mi…

2017

The triphenyltin(IV) compound with N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-L-ornithine (Boc-Orn-OH), [Ph3Sn(Boc-Orn-O)], was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, solution1H,13C and119Sn NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. The organotin(IV) compound inhibited at very low micromolar concentrations the growth of human tumor cell lines HepG2 (hepatocarcinoma cells), MCF-7 (mammary cancer) and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) while it did not affect the viability of non-malignant human-derived hepatic cells Chang. The mechanism of the antiproliferative effect of Ph3Sn(Boc-Orn-O), investigated on human hepatoma HepG2 cells, was pro-apoptotic, being associated with externalization of plasma membrane …

H and 19F NMR Investigation on Mixed Hydrocarbon−Fluorocarbon Micelles

2003

1H and 1 9 F NMR measurements on aqueous solutions of sodium perfluorooctanoate (SPFO) and sodium dodecanoate (SD) mixtures are reported. The surfactant concentration ranged from ∼0.3 to 10 times the critical micelle concentration (cmc ≅ 0.03 mol L - 1 ). The cmc of the SD/SPFO/water mixed system obtained from NMR data was in good agreement with that previously obtained by conductivity measurements. Below the cmc, the experimental chemical shift (δ) was independent of the total concentration for both surfactants. Above the cmc, however, the 6 values for 1 9 F varied linearly with concentration, whereas the values for the hydrogenated surfactant deviated from linearity. These observations in…

FLUORINATED DERIVATIVES OF A POLYASPARTAMIDE BEARING POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL CHAINS AS OXYGEN CARRIERS

2008

Abstract In this paper the synthesis and characterization of new fluorinated polymers based on a polyaspartamide bearing polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains, are reported. The starting material was the α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHEA), a water soluble and biocompatible polymer, that has been derivatized with both polyethylene glycol (with a molecular weight of 2000 Da) and 5-pentafluorophenyl-3-perfluoroheptyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole. By varying the amount of the fluorinated oxadiazole, three samples have been prepared and characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 19F NMR and UV–VIS spectroscopy. Size exclusion chromatography analysis of these copolymers revealed the occurrence of a self-asso…

A study of dimethyltin(IV)-L-cysteinate in aqueous solution

1988

The in vivo activity of some R2Sn-L-cysteinate complexes (R = Me, Et, n-Bu) against murine P-388 leukaemia has been tested. Only the Et2Sn(IV) complex showed a marginal positive effect. Trigonal bipyramidal tin environments with two carbon (R) atoms and the sulfur atom in the equatorial plane and oxygen (carboxylate) and nitrogen (NH2) in apical positions have been proposed for the solid compexes (R = Me, Et, n-Bu, Ph) on the basis of experimental Mossbauer parameters and infrared (IR) data. Aqueous solutions of the Me2SnL-cysteinate have been studied by IR, 1H NMR and 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy (in frozen solution) at different pH values to identify the Me2Sn(IV) species present. At pH >…

INTERACTIONS OF ORGANOTIN(IV) HALIDES WITH REDUCED GLUTATHIONE IN AQUEOUS-SOLUTION

1993

Abstract Glutathione (GSH) is a compound extremely common among many living organisms in which it plays a fundamental role in the processes of detoxification. Also, organotin(IV) derivatives are more and more commonly used in technological processes or as antitumor drugs. So it seemed interesting to investigate the possible interactions between GSH and organotin compounds in water. Particularly, it has been studied because of its role in the organic radicals linked to the tin center on the stoichiometry and the structure of the adducts. Information was obtained following the reaction between Me n SnCl 4-n (n = 1 to 3) and GSH by Mossbauer and NMR spectroscopies on the assumption that change…

Complexes of Tungsten(VI) with Mucic Acid: a Spectrophotometric and Polarimetric Study in Aqueous Solution

1986

Abstract Spectrophotometric work on mucic acid-W(VI) system shows the formation of three different oxoanion complexes in aqueous solution; their stability is dependent upon pH. One of the complexes is monomeric tungstodimucate and the other two are 2/2 species. An anomalous cryoscopic behaviour, similar to that of W(VI) tartaric system, has been observed for the dimeric complex formed at higher pH. The stoichiometries and conditional dissociation constants have been polarimetrically determined by means of competitive reactions between the mucic and tartaric ligands. 1 H and 13 C NMR spectra have been interpreted for the similar complex species of both mucic and tartaric acids.

Synthesis, Characterization, and X-ray Crystal Structures of Cyclam Derivatives. 8. Thermodynamic and Kinetic Appraisal of Lead(II) Chelation by Octa…

2005

En route toward the development of hybrid organic−inorganic extracting materials incorporating lead-selective chelators and their implementation in water purification processes, the lead(II) binding properties of three N-carbamoylmethyl-substituted 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecanes (cyclams) have been fully investigated by spectroscopic (IR, UV−vis, MALDI-TOF MS, 1H and 13C NMR), X-ray crystallographic, potentiometric, and kinetic methods. Solution NMR studies revealed that the Pb2+ ion is entrapped in a molecular cage constituted by the four macrocyclic nitrogen and four amidic oxygen atoms. Protonation and lead binding constants determined in aqueous solution were shown to be linearly de…
