5G IoT system for real-time psycho-acoustic soundscape monitoring in smart cities
2020
In Next-Generation Technologies, the monitoring of environmental noise nuisance in the Smart City should be as efficient as possible. 5G IoT systems offer a great opportunity to offload the node calculation, as they provide a number of new concepts for dynamic computing that previous technologies did not offer. In this case, a complete 5G IoT system for psycho-acoustic monitoring has been implemented using different options to offload the calculation of the parameters to different parts of the system. This offloading has been implemented by directly computing the metrics in the node (as a Raspberry Pi), and in a ESP32 device (FiPy) and by sampling the audio and sending it to the EDGE in the…
Improvement of lateral connectivity in a sector of River Hârtibaciu (Olt/Danube Basin)
2017
Abstract The Hârtibaciu River in the Alţâna area has a disturbed lateral connectivity owing to its lateral embankments, as a result of which fish communities in this river sector are negatively influenced. The method of obtaining the water supply for a new proposed wetland is by gravitation, and any excessive water supply to the wetland will be controled and directed to the Hârtibaciu River in a natural manner. A state-of-the-art man-made wetland should increase the quality of the habitat for local fish communities, especially for the Rhodeus sericeus population, which is a species of conservation interest.
Reducing the observation error in a WSN through a consensus-based subspace projection
2013
An essential process in a Wireless Sensor Network is the noise mitigation of the measured data, by exploiting their spatial correlation. A widely used technique to achieve this reduction is to project the measured data into a proper subspace. We present a low complexity and distributed algorithm to perform this projection. Unlike other algorithms existing in the literature, which require the number of connections at every node to be larger than the dimension of the involved subspace, our algorithm does not require such dense network topologies for its applicability, making it suitable for a larger number of scenarios. Our proposed algorithm is based on the execution of several consensus pro…
Scalability of GPU-Processed 3D Distance Maps for Industrial Environments
2018
This paper contains a benchmark analysis of the open source library GPU-Voxels together with the Robot Operating System (ROS) in large-scale industrial robotics environment. Six sensor nodes with embedded computing generate real-time point cloud data as ROS topics. The overall data from all sensor nodes is processed by a combination of CPU and GPU on a central ROS node. Experimental results demonstrate that the system is able to handle frame rates of 10 and 20 Hz with voxel sizes of 4, 6, 8 and 12 cm without saturation of the CPU or the GPU used by the GPU-Voxels library. The results in this paper show that ROS, in combination with GPU-Voxels, can be used as a viable solution for real-time …
Reliable diagnostics using wireless sensor networks
2019
International audience; Monitoring activities in industry may require the use of wireless sensor networks, for instance due to difficult access or hostile environment. But it is well known that this type of networks has various limitations like the amount of disposable energy. Indeed, once a sensor node exhausts its resources, it will be dropped from the network, stopping so to forward information about maybe relevant features towards the sink. This will result in broken links and data loss which impacts the diagnostic accuracy at the sink level. It is therefore important to keep the network's monitoring service as long as possible by preserving the energy held by the nodes. As packet trans…
Comparison of electropolishing behaviours of TSC, ALM and cast 316L stainless steel in H 3 PO 4 /H 2 SO 4
2017
Abstract In recent decades, new manufacturing processes have been developed such as Thermal Spray Coating (TSC) and Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM), which reduce or avoid machining of parts with complex geometries. This study aims to develop an Electropolishing (EP) process for TSC and ALM 316L Stainless Steel (SS). EP is an anodic dissolution process currently used in industry to reduce surface roughness and obtain a bright and smooth finish. The EP mechanism was studied, in a mixture of H3PO4 and H2SO4, for TSC, ALM and “cast” SS in order to determine the best conditions (time, temperature, potential). Special attention was paid to surface characterization by combining several techniqu…
Sampled Fictitious Play on Networks
2019
We formulate and solve the problem of optimizing the structure of an information propagation network between multiple agents. In a given space of interests (e.g., information on certain targets), each agent is defined by a vector of their desirable information, called filter, and a vector of available information, called source. The agents seek to build a directed network that maximizes the value of the desirable source-information that reaches each agent having been filtered en route, less the expense that each agent incurs in filtering any information of no interest to them. We frame this optimization problem as a game of common interest, where the Nash equilibria can be attained as limit…
Subjective Logic-Based In-Network Data Processing for Trust Management in Collocated and Distributed Wireless Sensor Networks
2018
While analyzing an explosive amount of data collected in today’s wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the redundant information in the sensed data needs to be handled. In-network data processing is a technique which can eliminate or reduce such redundancy, leading to minimized resource consumption. On the other hand, trust management techniques establish trust relationships among nodes and detect unreliable nodes. In this paper, we propose two novel in-network data processing schemes for trust management in static WSNs. The first scheme targets at networks, where sensor nodes are closely collocated to report the same event. Considering both spatial and temporal correlations, this scheme generat…
Wissen, Verstehen, Glauben?
Graph Rewriting Based Search for Molecular Structures: Definitions, Algorithms, Hardness
2018
We define a graph rewriting system that is easily understandable by humans, but rich enough to allow very general queries to molecule databases. It is based on the substitution of a single node in a node- and edge-labeled graph by an arbitrary graph, explicitly assigning new endpoints to the edges incident to the replaced node. For these graph rewriting systems, we are interested in the subgraph-matching problem. We show that the problem is NP-complete, even on graphs that are stars. As a positive result, we give an algorithm which is polynomial if both rules and query graph have bounded degree and bounded cut size. We demonstrate that molecular graphs of practically relevant molecules in d…
