Whole-body magnetic resonance for staging and response assessment of lymphoma in a pregnant woman treated with antenatal chemotherapy
2017
A 32-year-old pregnant female presented with bilateral supraclavicular swelling, diffuse itching and right shoulder pain. After lymph nodal biopsy, a diagnosis of nodular sclerosis Hodgkin's lymphoma was obtained. A multidisciplinary team decided to start chemotherapy before the delivery, and whole-body MRI was used to stage the disease and evaluate the response after antenatal chemotherapy. This case shows that whole-body MRI is an attractive procedure that avoids radiation exposure and contrast administration, and enables staging and follow-up of a pregnant patient without risk to the fetus.
Focal Nodular Hyperplasia After Treatment With Oxaliplatin: A Multiinstitutional Series of Cases Diagnosed at MRI
2018
OBJECTIVE. Benign hepatic lesions may occur after chemotherapy treatment and may mimic metastases at imaging. We describe focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) lesions diagnosed at MRI that occurred de n...
Fuel Cell Performances of Bio-Membranes Made of Chitosan-Polyelectrolyte Thin Films and Nanowires into Anodic Alumina Membranes
2012
Chitosan (CS) / Phosphotungstic acid (PTA) polyelectrolytes in the shape of thin films and nanowires supported by Anodic Alumina Membranes (AAM) have been fabricated through solution cast and filtration techniques, respectively. Their ability to function in a H2/O2 fuel cell under mild conditions (room temperature, low humidity and low Pt loading) is proved for the first time. The fabricated membrane electrode assemblies produce power peaks of ~20 mW cm-2 for both films and nanowires. The CS/PTA films (20-40 μm thick) are able to produce a quite constant power density of ~10 mW cm-2 recorded for at least 7 h. The gradual decrease of the power output with time observed for CS/PTA nanowires i…

Electrochemical Synthesis of d,l-Homocysteine Thiolactone Hydrochloride in a Batch Continuous Recirculation Reactor Equipped with Carbon Felt Cathode…
2007
The electrochemical reduction of D,L-homocystine hydrochloride to the corresponding cysteine was performed in a batch continuous recirculation reaction system that was equipped with a FM01-LC electrochemical reactor. Electrolyses were performed under amperostatic conditions, using carbon felt cathodes and DSA anodes divided by Nafion 324 cationic membranes. A simple reactor mathematical model was used to assess the effect of operative parameters (the initial substrate concentration, the reaction temperature, the current density, and the linear velocity of the catholyte) on the performances of the process, with the objective of determining the optimized conditions to perform the electrosynth…
Determination of alternative and conventional chelating agents as copper(II) complexes by capillary zone electrophoresis—The first use of didecyldime…
2006
Abstract A capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) method for analyzing 11 chelating agents [β-alaninediacetic acid (β-ADA), trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane- N , N , N ′, N ′-tetraacetic acid (CDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), N -(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine- N , N ′, N ′-triacetic acid (HEDTA), N -(2-hydroxyethyl)iminodiacetic acid (HEIDA), iminodiacetic acid (IDA), methylglycinediacetic acid (MGDA), nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), 1,3-diaminopropane- N , N , N ′, N ′-tetraacetic acid (PDTA) and triethylenetetraaminehexaacetic acid (TTHA)] as negatively charged copper(II) complexes has been established. Both conventional and alternative che…
Liquid/Gas and Liquid/Liquid Phase Behavior of n-Butane/1,4-Polybutadiene versus n-Butane/1,2-Polybutadiene
2005
Solutions of 1,4-polybutadiene (1,4-PB, 98% cis) and of 1,2-polybutadiene (1,2-PB) in n-butane (n-C 4 ) were studied with respect to their vapor pressure and to their demixing into two liquid phases under isochoric conditions within the temperature range from 25 to 75 °C. 1,2-PB mixes homogeneously with n-C 4 at any ratio, in contrast to 1,4-PB, which exhibits a miscibility gap extending from practically pure solvent to approximately 40 wt % polymer. Corresponding to these solubility differences, the vapor pressures for the system n-C 4 /1,4-PB are considerably higher than for n-C 4 /1,2-PB at the same concentration and temperature. The experimental results are modeled accurately and consis…
Glucose oxidase as a biocatalytic enzyme-based bio-fuel cell using Nafion membrane limiting crossover
2013
A novel combination for an Enzyme-based Biofuel cell included a Nafion membrane as an ion transporter that maintained a working cell charge and inhibited membrane degradation. The prototype cell chamber used oxygen (O2) in the cathode cell and glucose in the anode. The Nafion membrane stability studied here was evidently in the region of 0% loss of conductivity as the charge was constant and increased after the addition of glucose. The prototype cell chamber used NaCl in the cathode cell and glucose oxidase (GOx) in the anodic chamber was successfully studied for membrane stability showed in this study no evidence of poisoning from membrane leakage in a controlled pH environment. There was …
Paradoxical effect of increased diastolic Ca(2+) release and decreased sinoatrial node activity in a mouse model of catecholaminergic polymorphic ven…
2012
Background— Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia is characterized by stress-triggered syncope and sudden death. Patients with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia manifest sinoatrial node (SAN) dysfunction, the mechanisms of which remain unexplored. Methods and Results— We investigated SAN [Ca 2+ ] i handling in mice carrying the catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia–linked mutation of ryanodine receptor (RyR2 R4496C ) and their wild-type (WT) littermates. In vivo telemetric recordings showed impaired SAN automaticity in RyR2 R4496C mice after isoproterenol injection, analogous to what was observed in catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricul…
