Nonequilibrium dressing in a cavity with a movable reflecting mirror

We consider a movable mirror coupled to a one-dimensional massless scalar field in a cavity. Both the field and the mirror's mechanical degrees of freedom are described quantum-mechanically, and they can interact each other via the radiation pressure operator. We investigate the dynamical evolution of mirror and field starting from a nonequilibrium initial state, and their local interaction which brings the system to a stationary configuration for long times. This allows us to study the time-dependent dressing process of the movable mirror interacting with the field, and its dynamics leading to a local equilibrium dressed configuration. Time-resolved photoabsorption in finite systems: A first-principles NEGF approach

We describe a first-principles NonEquilibrium Green’s Function (NEGF) approach to time-resolved photoabsortion spectroscopy in atomic and nanoscale systems. The method is used to highlight a recently discovered dynamical correlation effect in the spectrum of a Krypton gas subject to a strong ionizing pump pulse. We propose a minimal model that captures the effect, and study the performance of time-local approximations versus time-nonlocal ones. In particular we implement the time-local Hartree-Fock and Markovian second Born (2B) approximation as well as the exact adiabatic approximation within the Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory framework. The generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz with initial correlations

Within the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism, the Generalized Kadanoff-Baym Ansatz (GKBA) has stood out as a computationally cheap method to investigate the dynamics of interacting quantum systems driven out of equilibrium. Current implementations of the NEGF--GKBA, however, suffer from a drawback: real-time simulations require {\em noncorrelated} states as initial states. Consequently, initial correlations must be built up through an adiabatic switching of the interaction before turning on any external field, a procedure that can be numerically highly expensive. Effect of nonequilibrium charge screening in A + B ? 0 bimolecular reactions in condensed matter

The formalism of many-particle densities developed earlier by the present authors is applied to the study of the cooperative effects in the kinetics of bimolecular A +B--*0 reactions between oppositely charged particles (reactants). It is shown that unlike the Debye-Hiickel theory in statistical physics, here charge screening has essentially a nonequilibrium character. For the asymmetric mobility of reactants (DA=0, D~4:0) the joint spatial distribution of similar immobile reactants A reveals at short distances a singular character associated with their aggregation. Attenuation of the fourth sound in liquid helium II via extended thermodynamics

Abstract This work continues a study begun in previous works, where a non-standard model of liquid helium II is proposed, in which a small entropy transfer is associated with the superfluid component. In this work the influence of this superfluid entropy on the propagation of the fourth sound is analyzed. From experimental data for velocities and attenuations of the first and second sound, the model provides speed and attenuation coefficient of the fourth sound in a porous medium as a function of the ratio ss/s between the superfluid entropy ss and the total entropy s. These values are determined in the two limiting cases ss/s=0 and =0.02, for various values of temperature and pressure.

Noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems

2009

In this paper noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems is studied by both an Ising-type model and a Preisach–Arrhenius model as well as a dynamic Preisach model. It is shown that in one nonequilibrium Ising system noise enhanced stability occurs and that dynamic Preisach model has the capability to predict the occurrence of noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems. On the contrary, in a Preisach–Arrhenius model of a single quadrant magnetic material, noise enhanced stability is not detected.

Model for ion transport in bipolar membranes.

A simple theory for multi-ionic transport, nonequilibrium water dissociation, and space-charge effects in bipolar membranes is developed on the basis of some of the concepts used in the solid-state n-p junction. Ion transport is described in terms of the Nernst-Planck flux equation and nonequilibrium water dissociation is accounted for by the Onsager theory of the second Wien effect. The model is expected to be of interest for biological and synthetic membranes, and can explain a number of observed effects.

Effect of reactant spatial distribution in theA+B→0reaction kinetics in one dimension with Coulomb interaction

The effect of nonequilibrium charge screening in the kinetics of the one-dimensional, diffusion-controlled $A+B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ reaction between charged reactants in solids and liquids is studied. The incorrectness of the static, Debye-H\"uckel theory is shown. Our microscopic formalism is based on the Kirkwood superposition approximation for three-particle densities and the self-consistent treatment of the electrostatic interactions defined by the nonuniform spatial distribution of similar and dissimilar reactants treated in terms of the relevant joint correlation functions.
