Are You My Mother? d'Alison Bechdel
2018
Based on Alison Bechdel's autobiographical essay Are You My Mother?, this article is a discussion on two boundaries of the essay : a generic boundary between essay and autobiography, questioned by the possibility of autobiographical essay, and an intermedial boundary challenged by the development of graphic essays in comics. Are You My Mother? is a self-reflexive autobiographical work which describes the author's discovery of psychoanalysis and deals at the same time with mother-child relationships and the continuity between novel writing, autobiography and psychoanalysis, thus articulating autobiographical material and general thoughts. The book can be described in particular as a consiste…
Autenticità
2019
The article intends to synthetically reconstruct a line of development of the Italian narrative contemporary, from the nineties onwards, based on the concept of authenticity, vast and rich in applications in the most disparate fields (juridical, philosophical, artistic). After a brief review of four emblematic cases for the use of authenticity rhetoric (Siti, Moresco, Mozzi, non-fiction), the article offers a brief overview of the narrative of last twenty years. It therefore ends with a reflection on a possible passage from one demystification of authenticity (with autofiction) to its internal amplification contradictory (with non-fiction).
Approach to the interactive documentary as transmedia format
2019
2012
This article focuses on two non-fiction works by Native American author N. Scott Momaday: his 1969 historical memoir The Way to Rainy Mountain and his essay collection The Man Made of Words. It specifically tackles performative conceptions of language in the Kiowa storytelling tradition, where words are experienced as speech acts that have the power to intervene in surrounding realities. Taking into account 20th century ethno-cultural and linguistic policies in the United States, the article also reflects on the role indigenous languages may play in contemporary Native American Literature, which has most often been written in English.

Talking about something real: the concept of truth in multimodal non-fiction books for young people
2016
AbstractWithin social semiotics we discuss how different semiotic resources alone or in multimodal texts are used to communicate truth. This is one of the parts of the multimodal theory that are least developed and discussed. The discussion on truth within social semiotics is mainly focused on the relationship between a corresponding type of truth that is common in natural science and a more everyday perception of truth. This can give an incomplete and stereotypical image of how truth is portrayed. This essay attempts to nuance the picture by suggesting that our theoretical conceptions of how we portray truth visually can be nuanced and developed by combining the theory of multimodality wit…

2022
Vasilij Subbotin’s "We Stormed the Reichstag" is a typical specimen of the wave of non-fiction prose about World War II which sprang up in the wake of the 20th Congress. The search for the unjustly forgotten war hero, one of the major themes of this kind of literature, is represented here by the story of Pëtr Pjatnickij, a soldier who fell on the steps of the Reichstag entrance with a red flag in his hand and was then forgotten. If, hypothetically, this story was false, it would echo the (probably false) story of the 28 ‘panfilovcy’ who purportedly fell at Dubosekovo during the battle for Moscow. In that case, Subbotin’s text would embody a characteristically literary device: giving a name …
