Non-linear systems under impulsive parametric input
1999
In this paper the problem of the response of non-linear systems excited by an impulsive parametric input is treated. For such systems the response exhibits a jump depending on the amplitude of the impulse as well as on the value of the state variables immediately before the impulse occurrence. Recently, the jump prediction has been obtained in a series form. Here the incremental rule for any scalar real valued function is obtained in an analytical form involving the jump of the state variables. It is also shown that the formulation for the jump evaluation is also able to give a new step-by-step integration technique.
State Estimation of a Nonlinear Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Model using an Extended Kalman Filter
2008
An Extended Kalman Filter is designed in order to estimate both state variables and wind velocity vector at the same time for a non conventional unmanned aircraft. The proposed observer uses few measurements, obtained by means of either conventional simple air data sensors or a low cost GPS. To cope with the low rate of the GPS with respect to the other sensors, the EKF algorithm has been modified to allow for a dual rate measurement model. State propagation is obtained by means of an accurate six degrees of freedom nonlinear model of the aircraft dynamics. To obtain joint estimation of state and disturbance, wind velocity components are included in the set of the state variables. Both stoc…
Observer-based control design for a class of nonlinear systems subject to unknown inputs: LMI approach
2015
This paper deals with the problem of observer-based controller design for a class of nonlinear systems subject to unknown inputs. A novel method is presented to design a controller using estimated state variables which guarantees all the state variables of the closed-loop system converge to the vicinity of the origin and stay there forever. This is done via satisfying several sufficient conditions in terms of nonlinear matrix inequalities. In light of linear algebra, particularly matrix decompositions, the achieved conditions will be converted to a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) problem to facilitate the procedure of computing the observer and controller gains. Finally, the effectiveness of…
Stability measures in metastable states with Gaussian colored noise
2009
We present a study of the escape time from a metastable state of an overdamped Brownian particle, in the presence of colored noise generated by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We analyze the role of the correlation time on the enhancement of the mean first passage time through a potential barrier and on the behavior of the mean growth rate coefficient as a function of the noise intensity. We observe the noise enhanced stability effect for all the initial unstable states used, and for all values of the correlation time $\tau_c$ investigated. We can distinguish two dynamical regimes characterized by weak and strong correlated noise respectively, depending on the value of $\tau_c$ with respect to …
Nonlinear response functions in an exponential trap model
2014
The nonlinear response to an oscillating field is calculated for a kinetic trap model with an exponential density of states and the results are compared to those for the model with a Gaussian density of states. The calculations are limited to the high temperature phase of the model. It is found that the results are qualitatively different only in a temperature range near the glass transition temperature $T_0$ of the exponential model. While for the Gaussian model the choice of the dynamical variable that couples to the field has no impact on the shape of the linear response, this is different for the exponential model. Here, it is found that also the relaxation time strongly depends on the …
Signatures of noise-enhanced stability in metastable state
2005
The lifetime of a metastable state in the transient dynamics of an overdamped Brownian particle is analyzed, both in terms of the mean first passage time and by means of the mean growth rate coefficient. Both quantities feature non monotonic behaviors as a function of the noise intensity, and are independent signatures of the noise enhanced stability effect. They can therefore be alternatively used to evaluate and estimate the presence of this phenomenon, which characterizes metastability in nonlinear physical systems.
Linear and nonlinear experimental regimes of stochastic resonance
2000
We investigate the stochastic resonance phenomenon in a physical system based on a tunnel diode. The experimental control parameters are set to allow the control of the frequency and amplitude of the deterministic modulating signal over an interval of values spanning several orders of magnitude. We observe both a regime described by the linear response theory and the nonlinear deviation from it. In the nonlinear regime we detect saturation of the power spectral density of the output signal detected at the frequency of the modulating signal and a dip in the noise level of the same spectral density. When these effects are observed we detect a phase and frequency synchronization between the st…
Statistics of nonlinear stochastic dynamical systems under Lévy noises by a convolution quadrature approach
2010
This paper describes a novel numerical approach to find the statistics of the non-stationary response of scalar non-linear systems excited by L\'evy white noises. The proposed numerical procedure relies on the introduction of an integral transform of Wiener-Hopf type into the equation governing the characteristic function. Once this equation is rewritten as partial integro-differential equation, it is then solved by applying the method of convolution quadrature originally proposed by Lubich, here extended to deal with this particular integral transform. The proposed approach is relevant for two reasons: 1) Statistics of systems with several different drift terms can be handled in an efficie…
Other 2N− 2 parameters solutions of the NLS equation and 2N+ 1 highest amplitude of the modulus of theNth order AP breather
2015
In this paper, we construct new deformations of the Akhmediev-Peregrine (AP) breather of order N (or APN breather) with real parameters. Other families of quasirational solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation are obtained. We evaluate the highest amplitude of the modulus of the AP breather of order N; we give the proof that the highest amplitude of the APN breather is equal to . We get new formulas for the solutions of the NLS equation, which are different from these already given in previous works. New solutions for the order 8 and their deformations according to the parameters are explicitly given. We simultaneously get triangular configurations and isolated rings. Moreover,…
Breathers and solitons of generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equations as degenerations of algebro-geometric solutions
2011
We present new solutions in terms of elementary functions of the multi-component nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations and known solutions of the Davey-Stewartson equations such as multi-soliton, breather, dromion and lump solutions. These solutions are given in a simple determinantal form and are obtained as limiting cases in suitable degenerations of previously derived algebro-geometric solutions. In particular we present for the first time breather and rational breather solutions of the multi-component nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations.
