Four-wave-mixing coherent oscillator with frequency shifted feedback and misaligned pump waves.

2009

The effect of the pump waves misalignment on the oscillation spectra and oscillation intensity of a semilinear photorefractive oscillator is studied numerically and compared with the results of the experiment performed with a KNbO3:Fe,Ag crystal.

Impact of slow gain dynamics on soliton molecules in mode-locked fiber lasers

2012

International audience; We theoretically demonstrate and experimentally confirm the major influence of gain dynamics on soliton molecules that self-assemble in mode-locked lasers. Both slow gain recovery and depletion play a pivotal role in the formation of chirped soliton molecules characterized by an increasing separation from leading to trailing pulses. These chirped molecules actually consist of many pulses and may be termed macromolecules. They are experimentally observed in a fiber laser and numerically modeled by an approach that properly includes the slow gain dynamics. Furthermore, it is shown that these processes stabilize soliton trains in fiber lasers by inhibiting internal osci…

Nonlinear pulse shaping by coherent addition of multiple redshifted solitons

2011

International audience; The injection of a phase- and amplitude-shaped pulse into a photonic-crystal fiber provides additional degrees of freedom that can significantly influence the nature of nonlinear propagation and nonlinear and dispersive interactions. This strong sensitivity of nonlinear effects-particularly the Raman soliton self-frequency shift-greatly extends the parameter space available to generate tailored output fields for applications such as microscopic imaging. By numerical simulations, we identify the relevant interpulse interactions, and we experimentally demonstrate the additional capabilities of this nonlinear pulse-shaping method.

Phase joint transform sequential correlator for nonlinear binary correlations

2005

We study the performance of nonlinear optical correlations using a joint transform correlator that operates in phase-only spatial light modulation at input joint transform plane. Amplitude input nonlinear optical time sequential correlations have shown better discrimination and noise robustness than conventional linear correlations. Those nonlinear correlations are based on decomposing the reference and the target into binary slices and to add the contribution of all linear correlations between them. Those correlations can be easily implemented using a conventional joint transform correlator. However, the system has poor efficiency and low cross-correlation peak intensity, mainly because of…

Side-lobe suppression in electro-optic pulse generation

2007

A simple method is presented for rejecting undesirable tails and wings, around the main pulses of a periodic train, which is generated by electro-optical, sinusoidal phase modulation. It is shown that, by using a broadband optical carrier, the nonlinear chirp components generated by sinusoidal phase modulation can be filtered out. Thus, nearly apodised picosecond pulsation can be generated.

Design scheme for Mach–Zehnder interferometric coarse wavelength division multiplexing splitters and combiners

2006

I propose an analytical approach to design flattened wavelength splitters with cascaded Mach–Zehnder inter- ferometers when wavelength dependence of the directional couplers cannot be neglected. I start from a geo- metrical representation of the action of a doubly point-symmetrical filter, assuming no wavelength dependence of the couplers. Next I derive the analytical formulas behind its working principle and extend them to the wavelength-dependent case. I also show how the geometrical representation allows one to broaden the class of working structures. © 2006 Optical Society of America

Self-trapping of speckled light beams

2008

A speckle beam of light breaks up into small fragments as it propagates in a standard self-focusing nonlinear material. Now, by exploiting the non-local thermal response of a material, it is possible to trap a speckle beam in a self-induced waveguide.

Dissipative solitons for mode-locked fiber lasers

2010

The concept of a dissipative optical soliton is applied to interpret various pulse dynamics either predicted numerically or observed experimentally in passively mode-locked fiber lasers. The recently discovered “dissipative soliton resonance” phenomenon and “soliton rain” dynamics are highlighted as prominent examples.
