The tennis racket effect in a three-dimensional rigid body

2017

We propose a complete theoretical description of the tennis racket effect, which occurs in the free rotation of a three-dimensional rigid body. This effect is characterized by a flip ($\pi$- rotation) of the head of the racket when a full ($2\pi$) rotation around the unstable inertia axis is considered. We describe the asymptotics of the phenomenon and conclude about the robustness of this effect with respect to the values of the moments of inertia and the initial conditions of the dynamics. This shows the generality of this geometric property which can be found in a variety of rigid bodies. A simple analytical formula is derived to estimate the twisting effect in the general case. Modélisation, Analyse et Traitement de l'Information

2016

Fractal Weyl law for open quantum chaotic maps

2014

We study the semiclassical quantization of Poincar\'e maps arising in scattering problems with fractal hyperbolic trapped sets. The main application is the proof of a fractal Weyl upper bound for the number of resonances/scattering poles in small domains near the real axis. This result encompasses the case of several convex (hard) obstacles satisfying a no-eclipse condition.

Experimental and numerical enhancement of Vibrational Resonance in a neural circuit

2012

International audience; A neural circuit exactly ruled by the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations is excited by a biharmonic signal of frequencies f and F with respective amplitudes A and B. The magnitude spectrum of the circuit response is estimated at the low frequency driving f and presents a resonant behaviour versus the amplitude B of the high frequency. For the first time, it is shown experimentally that this Vibrational Resonance effect is much more pronounced when the two frequencies are multiple. This novel enhancement is also confirmed by numerical predictions. Applications of this nonlinear effect to the detection of weak stimuli are finally discussed.

Observation of laser-induced field-free permanent planar alignment of molecules

2011

International audience; Permanent planar alignment of gas-phase linear molecules is achieved by a pair of delayed perpendicularly polarized short laser pulses. The experiment is performed in a supersonic jet, ensuring a relatively high number density of molecules with moderately low rotational temperature. The effect is optically probed on a femtosecond time scale by the use of a third short pulse, enabling a time-resolved birefringence detection performed successively in two perpendicular planes of the laboratory frame. The technique allows for an unambiguous estimation of the molecular planar delocalization produced within the polarization plane of the pulse pair after the turn-off of the…

Ultra-short pulse propagation in birefringent fibers-the projection operator method

2008

International audience; We examine the propagation of ultra-short optical light pulses in dispersion-managed birefringent fiber transmission systems, in which the pulse dynamics is governed by the coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations with higher-order linear and nonlinear optical effects. We derive the equations of motion in terms of pulse parameters such as amplitude, temporal position, width, chirp, frequency and phase, using a projection operator method, and we obtain the spatial dynamical behavior of picosecond and femtosecond pulse parameters. From our detailed analysis, we show that the stimulated Raman scattering has a strong impact on the pulse dynamics.

Topological properties of cellular automata on trees

2012

We prove that there do not exist positively expansive cellular automata defined on the full k-ary tree shift (for k>=2). Moreover, we investigate some topological properties of these automata and their relationships, namely permutivity, surjectivity, preinjectivity, right-closingness and openness.

Ten-parameters deformations of the sixth order Peregrine breather solutions of the NLS equation.

2013

In this paper, we construct new deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 6 with 10 real parameters. We obtain new families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation. With this method, we construct new patterns of different types of rogue waves. We get as already found for the lower order, the triangular configurations and rings isolated. Moreover, one sees for certain values of the parameters the appearance of new configurations of concentric rings.

Statistical consequences of the Devroye inequality for processes. Applications to a class of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems

2005

In this paper, we apply Devroye inequality to study various statistical estimators and fluctuations of observables for processes. Most of these observables are suggested by dynamical systems. These applications concern the co-variance function, the integrated periodogram, the correlation dimension, the kernel density estimator, the speed of convergence of empirical measure, the shadowing property and the almost-sure central limit theorem. We proved in \cite{CCS} that Devroye inequality holds for a class of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems introduced in \cite{young}. In the second appendix we prove that, if the decay of correlations holds with a common rate for all pairs of functio…
