Binding of oral contraceptive progestogens to serum proteins and cytoplasmic receptor
1990
Abstract Some progestogens widely used in oral contraceptives are characterized at the level of high-affinity receptor binding as well as binding to sex hormone-binding globulin and corticosteroid-binding globulin. With regard to binding to sex hormone-binding globulin, gestodene, levonorgestrel, and to a lesser extent 3-ketodesogestrel (which is only formed from the prodrug desogestrel in the body), show a behavior that is manifested in the relatively high affinity to sex hormone-binding globulin, whereas desogestrel and norgestimate do not display any measurable affinity for this specific steroid-binding serum protein. Furthermore, levonorgestrel and gestodene dissociate very much more sl…

Norwegian version of the Nutritional Form for the Elderly: sufficient psychometric properties for performing institutional screening of elderly patie…
2009
The objective of this study was to test if the Norwegian version of the nutritional screening instrument entitled Nutritional Form for the Elderly (NUFFE-NO) demonstrates sufficient evidence of reliability and validity, including sensitivity and specificity, when applied to a select group of elderly hospital patients. The hypothesis was that NUFFE-NO has sufficient psychometric properties to be used as a screening instrument. The model used for the testing procedure was designed to test reliability (homogeneity and stability) and validity (criterion-related, concurrent validity, and construct validity) including sensitivity and specificity in a cross-sectional study. One-hundred fifty-eight…

Forsidens rollespill : en komparativ multimodal analyse av forsider i to serbiske og to norske aviser
2006
Sosialsemantikken er den overordnende teoretiske rammen for analysene mine…

The association of serum androsterone glucuronide with inflammatory lesions in women with adult acne1
2002
Serum androsterone glucuronide (AoG) is a metabolite of circulating androgens under the influence of 5α-reductase activity and has been shown to be particularly elevated in women with acne. In this study, we wanted to evaluate changes in AoG before and after treatment with an oral contraceptive or placebo, and to assess whether changes correlated with the number and type of acne lesions. In order to accomplish these aims, we obtained sera from a completed prospective randomized trial, which was designed to assess the effectiveness of an oral contraceptive compared to placebo. Assessments were carried out in 56 women with moderate acne who were treated with Ortho Tri-Cyclen (norgestimate and…
Nutritional self-care among a group of older home-living people in rural Southern Norway
2015
Bjørg Dale, Ulrika SöderhamnCentre for Caring Research – Southern Norway, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, University of Agder, Grimstad, NorwayBackground: Older home-living people are an at-risk group for undernutrition, particularly those who are living alone. Lack of knowledge about healthy dietary habits, altered taste sensation, and declined health status are shown to be some of the factors related to undernutrition. The aims of this study were to explore how a small group of older people in Southern Norway perceived their nutritional self-care.Methods: An exploratory qualitative approach, combined with a simple self-report questionnaire, was used. Protrhombotic Effects of Contraceptives
2010
The use of oral contraceptives first became widespread some 40 years ago, and reports of an excess risk of cardiovascular disease among women who used these agents soon followed. Few drugs have been the object of such intensive epidemiological research, the outcome of which has provided clinicians with detailed information about risks not only of specific thrombotic diseases but also important non-contraceptive benefits from the pill. Recently, oral contraceptives have been classified by some according to "generation" (first, second, third, and most recently, fourth generation): first-generation formulations containing lynestrenol or norethindrone, second-generation formulations containing …
