When vibration stress occurs at the place of work, 1, 2, or 3 directions of the coordinate system related to man, or vectors of these axes, can be involved (Fig. 1). In such multiaxial vibration, the stress may predominate in one direction or may have similar magnitudes in all directions. In addition, rotational vibration about these axes may also take place (see section “Rotational Vibration,” p. 125).

We have measured the low temperature (T = 20 K) absorption spectra of the N52A, N52V, N52I, Y67F, and N52AY67F mutants of ferrous Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast) cytochrome c. All the bands in the Q0- and Q(v)-band region are split, and the intensity distributions among the split bands are highly asymmetric. The spectra were analyzed by a decomposition into Voigtian profiles. The spectral parameters thus obtained were further analyzed in terms of the vibronic coupling model of Schweitzer-Stenner and Bigman (Schweitzer-Stenner, R.; Bigman, D. J. Phys. Chem. The general context of this thesis is an effort to establish a bridge between gravitational andoptical physics, specifically in the context of scattering problems using as a guideline concepts andtools taken from the theory of non-self-adjoint operators. Amino Acid Chemistry in Solution:  Structural Study and Vibrational Dynamics of Glutamine in Solution. An ab Initio Reaction Field Model

The self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) theory was used to study structural and vibrational features of the amino acid L-glutamine in solution. Raman and infrared spectra of this molecule in solutions of H 2O and D2O were recorded and measured. The bands were firstly assigned on the basis of the isotopic shifts. An ab initio quadratic force field at the 6-31 +G* level was achieved. The calculation simulated a polar solvent by placing the molecule in an ellipsoidal cavity surrounded by a continuum dielectric. A structural and vibrational study of amino acid serine in aqueous solution has been carried out using Fourier transform spectroscopies and quantum mechanical calculations. FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of serine in H2O and D2O solutions were recorded and a general assignment of the observed bands was proposed on the basis of a zwitterionic structure for serine. Main criteria were the observed wavenumber shifts upon deuteration and previous assignments for other amino acids. Quantum counter-propagation in open optical cavities via the quasi-normal-mode approach

By using the quasi-normal-mode (QNM) formalism in a second quantization scheme, the problem of the counter-propagation of electromagnetic fields inside optical cavities is studied. The links between QNM operators and canonical destruction and creation operators describing the external free field, as well as the field correlation functions, are found and discussed. An application of the theory is performed for open cavities whose refractive index satisfies symmetric properties.

A closed-form solution for natural frequencies of thin-walled cylinders with clamped edges

Abstract This paper presents an approximate closed-form solution for the free-vibration problem of thin-walled clamped–clamped cylinders. The used indefinite equations of motion are classic. They derive from Reissner׳s version of Love׳s theory, properly modified with Donnell׳s assumptions, but an innovative approach has been used to find the equations of natural frequencies, based on a solving technique similar to Rayleigh׳s method, on the Hamilton׳s principle and on a proper constructions of the eigenfuctions. Volatility in Financial Markets: Stochastic Models and Empirical Results

We investigate the historical volatility of the 100 most capitalized stocks traded in US equity markets. An empirical probability density function (pdf) of volatility is obtained and compared with the theoretical predictions of a lognormal model and of the Hull and White model. The lognormal model well describes the pdf in the region of low values of volatility whereas the Hull and White model better approximates the empirical pdf for large values of volatility. Both models fails in describing the empirical pdf over a moderately large volatility range.
