One week after kainate-induced seizure CaSR was found in the injured CA3 region of the hippocampus and very interestingly it was found up-regulated in the neurons of CA1-CA2 and dentate gyrus. Similarly 1 week following ibotenic acid injection in the hippocampus CaSR mRNA expression was increased in oligodendrocytes both in the lesioned area and in the contralateral CA1-CA3 pyramidal cell layers and dentate gyrus. One week after needle-induced mechanical lesion an increase of labeled cells expressing CaSR mRNA was observed along the needle track. Contrast sensitivity (CS) in children is not routinely measured in the clinical setting, although CS losses have been found in amblyopic and premature children. Thus simple visual acuity measurements do not completely assess their quality of vision. Oral vitamin K effectively treats international normalised ratio (INR) values in excess of 10

SummaryUnanticipated elevation of the INR is common in patients receiving warfarin. We performed a prospective cohort study of 107 warfarintreated patients with INR values of more than 10 who received a single 2.5 mg dose of oral vitamin K. During the first week, one patient experienced major bleeding, and one died. In the first 90 days after enrolment four patients had major bleeding (3.7%, 1.0% to 9.3%), eight patients (7.5%, 3.3% to 14.2%) died and two had objectively confirmed thromboembolism. Based on our low rate of observed major bleeding we conclude that 2.5 mg of oral vitamin K is a reasonable treatment for patients with INR values of more than 10 who are not actively bleeding.

Comparison of the influence of corneo-scleral and scleral lenses on ocular surface and tear film metrics in a presbyopic population

PURPOSE: To assess and compare the effect of the corneo-scleral lenses (C-ScL) and scleral lenses (ScL) on tear film parameters and central corneal thickness (CCT) in healthy presbyopic subjects. METHODS: Thirty subjects wore two contact lenses (CLs), randomly assigned, of neutral power, but of different diameters, 12.7mm (C-ScL) and 18mm (ScL) and being equal in the others parameters: material (HS100) and centre thickness (0.29mm). The hypothetical role of congenital hypotonia in the development of early coronoid hyperplasia

Abstract Background Coronoid hyperplasia (CH) is an abnormal bony elongation of a histologically normal coronoid process. Its definitive cause remains unknown. Objectives To analyze the possible implication of congenital hypotonia in the pathogenesis of early coronoid overgrowth. Patients and methods Two infants with congenital hypotonia were evaluated for limited mouth aperture. Bilateral CH was diagnosed. Overlapping phenotypes between SHORT and Noonan syndromes in patients with PTPN11 pathogenic variants

Overlapping syndromes such as Noonan, Cardio-Facio-Cutaneous, Noonan syndrome (NS) with multiple lentigines and Costello syndromes are genetically heterogeneous conditions sharing a dysregulation of the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and are known collectively as the RASopathies. PTPN11 was the first disease-causing gene identified in NS and remains the more prevalent.
