Adaptive independent vector analysis for multi-subject complex-valued fMRI data.
2017
Abstract Background Complex-valued fMRI data can provide additional insights beyond magnitude-only data. However, independent vector analysis (IVA), which has exhibited great potential for group analysis of magnitude-only fMRI data, has rarely been applied to complex-valued fMRI data. The main challenges in this application include the extremely noisy nature and large variability of the source component vector (SCV) distribution. New method To address these challenges, we propose an adaptive fixed-point IVA algorithm for analyzing multiple-subject complex-valued fMRI data. We exploited a multivariate generalized Gaussian distribution (MGGD)- based nonlinear function to match varying SCV dis…
ROP, the Drosophila Sec1 homolog, interacts with syntaxin and regulates neurotransmitter release in a dosage-dependent manner.
1998
The Sec1 family of proteins is thought to function in both non-neuronal and neuronal secretion, although the precise role of this protein family has not been defined. Here, we study the function of ROP, the Drosophila Sec1 homolog, in neurotransmitter release. Electrophysiological analyses of transgenic lines overexpressing ROP and syntaxin, a presynaptic membrane protein, indicate that ROP interacts with syntaxin in vivo. Characterization of four point mutations in ROP shows that they fall into two phenotypic classes. Two mutations cause a dramatic reduction in both evoked and spontaneous neurotransmitter release. In contrast, the other two mutations reveal an increase in evoked neurotrans…
Impact of Clinical Features, Cytogenetics, Genetic Mutations and Methylation of CDKN2B and DLC-1 Promoters on Treatment Response to Azacitidine
2019
Introduction : Azacitidine (AZA) is a DNA hypomethylating agent used in myeloid neoplasms, however approximately half of patients show treatment failure or relapse. Last years, several studies have showed that genetic mutations may influence on response and survival of the treated patients. Other biomarkers that have traditionally been associated with the response to AZA are the recovery of the platelet count and the presence of abnormalities in the chromosome 7. Finally, the methylation dynamics of genes promoters could be a useful tool to predict the clinical response. Aim: To assess the predictive value on response to AZA of clinical features, cytogenetics, genetic mutations and the meth…
What Motivates Internet Users to Search for Asperger Syndrome and Autism on Google?
2020
Social campaigns are carried out to promote autism spectrum disorder (ASD) awareness, normalization, and visibility. The internet helps to shape perceptions of Asperger syndrome and autism. In fact, these campaigns often coincide with the increase in searches for both diagnoses on Google. We have two study objectives: to use Google Trends to identify the annual time points from 2015 to 2019 with the highest Google search traffic in Spain for the terms &ldquo
Orofacial muscles activity in children with swallowing dysfunction and removable functional appliances
2019
Swallowing dysfunction is a frequent disorder among children and refers to an altered tongue posture and abnormal tongue movement during swallowing. Removable functional appliance is one of the treatments applied by dentistry to correct this disorder. The aim of this study was to evaluate any differences on orofacial muscles activity in children with swallowing dysfunction with and without removable functional appliances. 68 children were eligible for the study and divided into the orthodontic group (OG) and the no-orthodontic group (NO-OG). Both groups performed a dental occlusion-class evaluation, a swallowing function test and a myoscan analysis in order to measure perioral forces (i.e. …
Spectral broadening of the Soret band in myoglobin: an interpretation by the full spectrum of low-frequency modes from a normal modes analysis.
2005
In this work the temperature dependence of the Soret band line shape in carbon-monoxy myoglobin is re-analyzed by using both the full correlator approach in the time domain and the frequency domain approach. The new analyses exploit the full density of vibrational states of carbon-monoxy myoglobin available from normal modes analysis, and avoid the artificial division of the entire set of vibrational modes coupled to the Soret transition into "high-frequency" and "low-frequency" subsets; the frequency domain analysis, however, makes use of the so-called short-times approximation, while the time domain one avoids it. Time domain and frequency domain analyses give very similar results, thus s…
Estudio crítico de los índices de severidad y la superficie afectada por el incendio de Sierra de Luna (Zaragoza)
2017
[EN] To determine the area burned by fire and its associated severity related to this forest fire taken place in Sierra de Luna (Zaragoza), on July 4th, 2015, three spectral indices derived from Landsat-8 imagery have been calculated: NDVI, NBR and BAI. Comparing the results obtained from each of them, in a wildland fire with extensive crop areas surrounded by forested areas, it has been demonstrated that combination of ΔNBR and BAI substantially improves the calculation of the burned area, concerning both in its external perimeter and in the unburned zones inside of the perimeter. For severity calculation is proposed a new methodology based on before and after NBR differences and its BAI c…
Molecular Characterization of Relapsed Core-Binding Factor (CBF) Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
2015
Abstract Background: CBF-AML is defined by recurrent genetic abnormalities which encompass t(8;21)(q22;q22), inv(16)(p13.1q22) or less frequently t(16;16)(p13.1;q22). Most frequent secondary chromosome aberrations in t(8;21) AML are del(9q) or loss of a sex chromosome, and in inv(16)/t(16;16) AML trisomy 22 or trisomy 8. At the molecular level mutations involving KIT, FLT3, or NRAS were identified as recurrent lesions in CBF-AML. However, the underlying genetic alterations which might trigger relapse in CBF-AML are not well delineated. Thus, the aim of our study was to characterize the clonal architecture of relapsed CBF-AML. Methods: We performed mutational profiling (KIT, FLT3-ITD, FLT3-T…
Psychophysically Tuned Divisive Normalization Approximately Factorizes the PDF of Natural Images
2010
The conventional approach in computational neuroscience in favor of the efficient coding hypothesis goes from image statistics to perception. It has been argued that the behavior of the early stages of biological visual processing (e.g., spatial frequency analyzers and their nonlinearities) may be obtained from image samples and the efficient coding hypothesis using no psychophysical or physiological information. In this work we address the same issue in the opposite direction: from perception to image statistics. We show that psychophysically fitted image representation in V1 has appealing statistical properties, for example, approximate PDF factorization and substantial mutual informatio…
