The spanish banks in face of the corporate social responsibility Standards: previous analysis of the financial crisis

2013

Transparency of information in the field of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is common to various standards. In recent years there has been a proliferation of standards and models for the formalization of CSR strategies. The objective is to assess the degree of implementation of standards of normalization. The analysis was conducted with data from the year 2008, coinciding with the first signs of the financial crisis, serving as a reference point to analyze the effect of the crisis. The field work was conducted using a survey answered by 57 Spanish credit institutions. We found a low degree of implementation of standards. The GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and the ISO 14001 stood ou…

Random walks in dynamic random environments and ancestry under local population regulation

2015

We consider random walks in dynamic random environments, with an environment generated by the time-reversal of a Markov process from the oriented percolation universality class. If the influence of the random medium on the walk is small in space-time regions where the medium is typical, we obtain a law of large numbers and an averaged central limit theorem for the walk via a regeneration construction under suitable coarse-graining. Such random walks occur naturally as spatial embeddings of ancestral lineages in spatial population models with local regulation. We verify that our assumptions hold for logistic branching random walks when the population density is sufficiently high.

The size of Simes’ global test for discrete test statistics

1999

Abstract To increase the power of the Bonferroni–Holm procedure several modified Bonferroni procedures have been proposed (for example, Hochberg, 1988. Biometrika 75, 800–802; Hommel, 1988. Biometrika 75, 383–386), which are based on Simes’ global test (Simes, 1986. Biometrika 73, 751–754). By several simulation studies which, in particular, considered multinormal test statistics, it has been suggested that the Simes test is a level α test. However, an exact proof exists for only few situations one of them assuming independence of test statistics. We studied the behaviour of Simes’ test for discrete test statistics. Due to discreteness one can expect more conservative decisions whereas depe…

Block Based Deconvolution Algorithm Using Spline Wavelet Packets

2010

This paper presents robust algorithms to deconvolve discrete noised signals and images. The idea behind the algorithms is to solve the convolution equation separately in different frequency bands. This is achieved by using spline wavelet packets. The solutions are derived as linear combinations of the wavelet packets that minimize some parameterized quadratic functionals. Parameters choice, which is performed automatically, determines the trade-off between the solution regularity and the initial data approximation. This technique, which id called Spline Harmonic Analysis, provides a unified computational scheme for the design of orthonormal spline wavelet packets, fast implementation of the…

Response models for mixed binary and quantitative variables

1992

SUMMARY A number of special representations are considered for the joint distribution of qualitative, mostly binary, and quantitative variables. In addition to the conditional Gaussian models and to conditional Gaussian regression chain models some emphasis is placed on models derived from an underlying multivariate normal distribution and on models in which discrete probabilities are specified linearly in terms of unknown parameters. The possibilities for choosing between the models empirically are examined, as well as the testing of independence and conditional independence and the estimation of parameters. Often the testing of independence is exactly or nearly the same for a number of di…

Una solucion bayesiana a la Paradoja de Stein

1982

If we are interested in making inferences about the square norm of the mean in a multivariate normal model, the usual uniform prior for the mean is not sound, as revealed by Stein in his 1959 work. This paper studies in what sense this prior must be modified by using the maximization of missing information procedure (Bernardo, 1979)

Extending graphical models for applications: on covariates, missingness and normality

2021

The authors of the paper “Bayesian Graphical Models for Modern Biological Applications” have put forward an important framework for making graphical models more useful in applied settings. In this discussion paper, we give a number of suggestions for making this framework even more suitable for practical scenarios. Firstly, we show that an alternative and simplified definition of covariate might make the framework more manageable in high-dimensional settings. Secondly, we point out that the inclusion of missing variables is important for practical data analysis. Finally, we comment on the effect that the Gaussianity assumption has in identifying the underlying conditional independence graph…

Testing abnormality in the spatial arrangement of cells in the corneal endothelium using spatial point processes

2001

The study of central corneal endothelium morphology is important in Ophthalmology. Some of the pathologies that could compromise endothelial cell morphology are trauma, cataract, surgery, use of contact lenses, corneal dystrophies or degenerations. The quantitative analysis of cell shape and cellular pattern is more sensitive in detecting subtle changes in endothelial morphology than cell density measurement or cell area analysis. In this paper, the morphology of the central cornea, the most important area from the point of view of vision, is studied through an associated bivariate spatial point pattern: the centroids of the cells and the triple points, that is, the points where three diffe…

The affine equivariant sign covariance matrix: asymptotic behavior and efficiencies

2003

We consider the affine equivariant sign covariance matrix (SCM) introduced by Visuri et al. (J. Statist. Plann. Inference 91 (2000) 557). The population SCM is shown to be proportional to the inverse of the regular covariance matrix. The eigenvectors and standardized eigenvalues of the covariance, matrix can thus be derived from the SCM. We also construct an estimate of the covariance and correlation matrix based on the SCM. The influence functions and limiting distributions of the SCM and its eigenvectors and eigenvalues are found. Limiting efficiencies are given in multivariate normal and t-distribution cases. The estimates are highly efficient in the multivariate normal case and perform …

Inference based on the affine invariant multivariate Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon statistic

2003

A new affine invariant multivariate analogue of the two-sample Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon test based on the Oja criterion function is introduced. The associated affine equivariant estimate of shift, the multivariate Hodges-Lehmann estimate, is also considered. Asymptotic theory is developed to provide approximations for null distribution as well as for a sequence of contiguous alternatives to consider limiting efficiencies of the test and estimate. The theory is illustrated by an example. Hettmansperger et al. [9] considered alternative slightly different affine invariant extensions also based on the Oja criterion. The methods proposed in this paper are computationally more intensive, but surpri…
