Antibodies to alpha B-crystallin, vimentin, and heat shock protein 70 in aqueous humor of patients with normal tension glaucoma and IgG antibody patt…

2007

To show the existence of IgG antibodies against retinal antigens in aqueous humor of normal tension glaucoma patients.Forty-two patients were included in this study. Aqueous humor was collected from control subjects (CO; n = 21) and patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG; n = 21). Western blot methods against bovine retinal antigens were used to detect the IgG antibody patterns. The complex antibody repertoires were analyzed by multivariate statistical techniques. Mass spectrometry was used to identify the most important antigens.Very complex IgG antibody patterns against retinal antigens were found in all analyzed aqueous humor samples. Our multivariate approach could quantify differen…

Psychological factors and defective colour vision

1995

In this study, involving students between 14 and 16 years old, the psychological dimensions of cognition and personality affected by red-green colour vision deficiencies were investigated. From the results of a factorial analysis it appears that the influence of colour vision abnormality on the psychological factors that we tested is always minor. Colour vision defect is correlated with such cognitive variables as spatial aptitude and visual difference perception, and with such personality variables as praxemia and submission. The weighting of the cognition and personality factors linked to colour vision abnormality, however, varies considerably and does not in any case contribute more than…

Electrofunctional features of the tilted disc syndrome.

1986

The ERG, EOG and VEPs of 15 patients with tilted disc syndrome were studied. The ERG showed abnormal amplitudes in about 1/4 of the eyes and the EOG values were pathological in 3 patients. It is probable that the abnormality of the inferior-nasal portion of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium seen in the tilted disc syndrome causes the changes in the ERG and EOG. Pattern VEPs latency was delayed in most patients. This finding is probably due to the poor focusing of the light in the retina.

Estimation of the mechanical properties of the eye through the study of its vibrational modes.

2017

Measuring the eye's mechanical properties in vivo and with minimally invasive techniques can be the key for individualized solutions to a number of eye pathologies. The development of such techniques largely relies on a computational modelling of the eyeball and, it optimally requires the synergic interplay between experimentation and numerical simulation. In Astrophysics and Geophysics the remote measurement of structural properties of the systems of their realm is performed on the basis of (helio-)seismic techniques. As a biomechanical system, the eyeball possesses normal vibrational modes encompassing rich information about its structure and mechanical properties. However, the integral a…

Temporal analysis of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (LST) parameters to detect changes in the Iberian lan…

2011

In past decades, the Iberian Peninsula has been shown to have suffered vegetation changes such as desertification and reforestation. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (LST) parameters, estimated from data acquired by the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) sensor onboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite series, are particularly adapted to assess these changes. This work presents an application of the yearly land-cover dynamics (YLCD) methodology to analyse the behaviour of the vegetation, which consists of a combined multitemporal study of the NDVI and LST parameters on a yearly basis. Throughout the 1…

Pampa Biome Environmental Particularities Regarding to Energy Balance

2020

Ecosystem evapotranspiration (ET) has been quantified around the world by different methodologies to understand the energy balance, especially to control the evolution of climate change. It is known that the vegetation of the pampa biome is natural grasslands, it has a large variety of species (flora and fauna), however is it different in the environmental aspects related to the energy balance when compared to the grassland cultivated? In this study the objective was to analyze the environmental differences of the Pampa Biome related to the energy balance in comparison with the pastures cultivated in Barrax, Spain. In the first one the minimum daily ET is 0.99 mm/day, while in the second is…

Geometric and morphologic evolution of normal fault planes and traces from 2D to 4D data

2003

Abstract The detailed 3D geometry of normal fault planes is described and analysed using datasets from outcrop studies (2D), seismic surveys (3D) and analogue models (4D). Different geometric configurations of simple isolated normal faults are studied by reference to processes of normal fault propagation. When a normal fault propagates without interacting with other fault zones, the entire border of the principal plane displays characteristic connected secondary structures. These secondary structures cause bifurcations of the principal fault terminations. The along-strike terminations of the principal plane display typical bifurcation configurations (‘ear geometry‘). The orientation of the …

Changes in vegetation spring dates in the second half of the twentieth century

2011

This study aims at estimating trends in spring phenology from vegetation index and air temperature at 2 m height. To this end, we have developed a methodology to infer spring phenological dates from Global Inventory Modeling and Mapping Studies GIMMS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index NDVI time-series, which are then extrapolated to the period 1948–2006 with the help of Reanalysis data, using its 2 m height air temperature parameter. First, yearly NDVI is fitted to a double-logistic function for the whole extent of the GIMMS database 1981–2003. This fitting procedure allows us to describe, on a yearly basis, the NDVI evolution for each pixel through the estimation of six parameters whic…

Tectonothermal Evolution of the Broadly Rifted Zone, Ethiopian Rift

2019

The Broadly Rifted Zone (BRZ) of southern Ethiopia is a long-lived and structurally complex segment of the East African Rift System. However, due to poor surface exposure of early synrift strata and a dearth of subsurface data, the evolution of the BRZ remains poorly understood. We present new apatite (U-Th-Sm)/He and augmented apatite fission track low-temperature thermochronology data from the Beto and Galana basin boundary fault systems to constrain the tectonothermal evolution of the western and eastern BRZ, respectively. Time-temperature reconstructions suggest that East African Rift System-related extension began concurrently across the BRZ in the early Miocene (20–17 Ma), at least 6 …
