Investigations of gestation-induced metabolic changes in the rat liver. I. Glycogen metabolism.

The activities of alpha-glucan-phosphorylase and phosphoglucomutase and the concentration of glycogen were measured in the liver of pregnant and non-pregnant rats. There were no significant differences between normal non-pregnant and pregnant animals nor was there any change of enzyme activities during pregnancy. Our results lend support to the idea that glycogen metabolism is not changed during normal pregnancy.

In preeclampsia, increased water-sodium retention results from a variety of pathophysiological changes in the endocrinological system. There are also organ-specific changes, such as renal clearance reduction up to 30% in comparison to normal pregnancy. For many years, physiologists expected to find additional cardial mechanisms that influence homeostasis. In 1981, de Bold [3] identified ANP a new humoral factor that leads to increased water and sodium excretion. The influence of ANP in preeclampsia has been the subject of controversial discussion.

They incorporate the anti-Citrullinated Protein antibody testing and the other classic criteria in a score system (the diagnosis of definite rheumatoid arthritis is made by a total score ≥6). Hypokalemia shortens relative refractory period of peripheral sensory nerves in man

Absolute and relative refractory periods and the sensory conduction velocity of the median and ulnar nerves were determined in six patients suffering from hypokalemia of various origins. Nerve impulse conduction and the absolute refractory period remained normal, but the relative refractory period was shortened to 1.7 to 2.6 ms at serum K+ levels from 1.6 to 2.9 mval/l. As compared with normal values this decrease was statistically significant.

A lack of consensus on an EAD definition hinders comparisons of liver transplant outcomes and management of recipients among and within centers.
