Wavefront holoscopy: application of digital in-line holography for the inspection of engraved marks in progressive addition lenses

Progressive addition lenses (PALs) are engraved with permanent marks at standardized locations in order to guarantee correct centering and alignment throughout the manufacturing and mounting processes. Out of the production line, engraved marks provide useful information about the PAL as well as act as locator marks to re-ink again the removable marks. Even though those marks should be visible by simple visual inspection with the naked eye, engraving marks are often faint and weak, obscured by scratches, and partially occluded and difficult to recognize on tinted or antireflection-coated lenses. Preliminary assessment of an integrated SMOS and MODIS application for global agricultural drought monitoring

An application of the Soil Moisture Agricultural Drought Index (SMADI) for global agricultural drought monitoring is presented. The index integrates surface soil moisture from the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and allows for global drought monitoring at medium spatial scales (0.05°). Biweekly maps of SMADI were obtained from year 2010 to 2015 over all agricultural areas on Earth. The SMADI time-series were compared with state-of-the-art drought indices over the Iberian Peninsula. Hypercalciuria and kidney calcifications in terminal 4q deletion syndrome: further evidence for a putative gene on 4q.

We report a newborn girl with a de novo terminal 4q deletion (q31.3 --> qter) and a characteristic phenotype of minor facial anomalies, cleft palate, congenital heart defect, abnormalities of hands and feet, and postnatal onset of growth deficiency. Laboratory studies showed excessive urinary calcium excretion on standard milk formula and on oral calcium load. Blood measurements of parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, bicarbonate, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, potassium, and urinary measurements of phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, potassium were normal for age.
