HL7v3 CDA Rel.2 prescription: Localization experience and GP Integration Project

2010

The localization experience for the e-prescription, based on the Health Level Seven Version 3 (HL7v3) Clinical Document Architecture, Release 2 (CDA Rel.2), is presented. As application, we propose a project of General Practitioners Integration with the EHR (Electronic Health Record), implementing the e-prescription, patient summary and other CDA Rel.2 documents. The integration is made possible with HL7v3, the most widely used standard for healthcare information interoperability. The project is in line with the state of the art in the normative referring context for the Italian Healthcare, both at national and regional level (Tuscany Region). Imbalanced Job Polarization and Skills Mismatch in Europe

2016

Abstract This paper considers the education of the labour force based on an analysis of trends in and the relationships between job polarization and skills mismatch. Both job polarization and skills mismatch have become topics of increasing interest, but relationships between the two have been relatively neglected in the literature. We argue that the relationship between polarization and skills mismatch is an empirical matter, which we analyse at both the macroeconomic and microeconomic level in European countries. A novel job polarization index (JPI) is proposed to measure imbalanced job polarization. It takes into account not only the change in the share of medium-level jobs, as is typica…

Newcomers Navigating Language Choice and Seeking Voice: Peer Talk in a Multilingual Primary School Classroom in Finland

2013

This article investigates how two young newcomers navigate an institutional policy of “English only” in a Finnish primary school and how this policy impacts opportunities for voice. From a discourse analytic and sociolinguistic perspective, the analysis takes an ethnographic path to a focal event of language conflict in the classroom. The analysis reveals that these two learners negotiate more powerful voices for themselves, despite responding differently to normative practices for code use in the classroom.

On "Coherence" and "Law": An Analysis of Different Models

2001

The aim of this paper is to compare different conceptions of the role of (normative) coherence in the legal field. More precisely, it aims to deepen Neil MacCormick's theory of legal reasoning, in which coherence is essentially considered an interpretative tool, and Ronald Dworkin's legal theory, in which coherence occupies a more crucial place. The main results of this paper can be summarized in two points. A) For Dworkin, coherence is not just an interpretative standard but constitutes the hard core of his theory of law. B) As a consequence of A, Dworkin's reflections on coherence (as an interpretative standard) cannot be separated from his theory of law grounded on the concept of integri…

Social organization through teacher-talk: Subteaching, socialization and the normative use of language in a multilingual primary class

2012

Abstract The present study explores the ways in which peers take up a teacher-like discourse to enforce normative uses of language in a classroom, effectively socializing one another to the institutional use of English which in turn signals class membership. Such an uptake of teacher-like discourses and practices can be characterized as subteaching ( Tholander & Aronsson, 2003 ). Data are drawn from an ethnographic study spanning the first and second grade for a group of students enrolled in English medium education in Finland, and the analysis centers on transcripts of classroom interaction. Findings indicate that students draw on subteaching actions to negotiate alignments and to sanction…

The polycontextual nature of computer-supported learning – theoretical and methodological perspectives

2003

This article discusses some theoretical and methodological problems and issues in the study of computer-supported learning activities with special reference to a discourse perspective in research. Special emphasis is laid on finding ways to reach the participant perspective in computer-supported collaborative learning projects, which are by nature polycontextual. By this term we refer to the diverse scenes and situations of learning activities that computer-supported learning involves. We will also address the issue of making claims on effective pedagogies, leaning on the theory of discourse as situated and constructive, which again sets special requirements on what kinds of assumptions and…

La responsabilidad del profesorado en la enseñanza de la puntuación

2013

[EN] Proper usage of punctuation marks is fundamental for good writing. Teachers are a key factor in the learning process of students¿ command of punctuation marks as they are the major source of information for learners. This article offers various studies which show the teachers¿ command of the usage of punctuation marks and the most important difficulties they encounter in their teaching experience. Similary, we review also some research that are far from the normative point of view and focus on psycholinguistic aspects in which it is to see how children learn to score and how adults can get better use of signs.

I saw this somewhere else: the Spanish Ambiguous Words (SAW) database

2017

The present paper describes the Spanish Ambiguous Words (SAW) database, which comprises 210 words (133 polysemous and 77 homographs). Three-hundred and fifteen Spanish university students took part in the study on which SAW is based. First, subjective word meanings and senses were collected by means of a meaning retrieval task. Two judges then assigned participants’ responses to different categories of meaning according to lexicographical and statistical criteria. Results showed that, while there was a relatively high relationship between the number of senses included in the dictionary and those provided by participants (r = .62), regression analyses on lexical decision and naming times rev…
