Gas emissions from five volcanoes in northern Chile and implications for the volatiles budget of the Central Volcanic Zone

This study performed the first assessment of the volcanic gas output from the Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) of northern Chile. We present the fluxes and compositions of volcanic gases (H2O, CO2, H2, HCl, HF, and HBr) from five of the most actively degassing volcanoes in this region—Láscar, Lastarria, Putana, Ollagüe, and San Pedro—obtained during field campaigns in 2012 and 2013. The inferred gas plume compositions for Láscar and Lastarria (CO2/Stot = 0.9–2.2; Stot/HCl = 1.4–3.4) are similar to those obtained in the Southern Volcanic Zone of Chile, suggesting uniform magmatic gas fingerprint throughout the Chilean arc. The ongoing anthropogenically caused ozone depletion and climate change has increased the amount of biologically harmful UV-B radiation, which is detrimental to fish in embryonal stages. The effects of UV-B radiation on the levels and locations of DNA damage manifested as cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and p53 protein in newly hatched embryos of pike were examined. Pike larvae were exposed in the laboratory to current and enhanced doses of UV-B radiation. UV-B exposure caused the formation of CPDs in a fluence rate-dependent manner, and the CPDs were found deeper in the tissues with increasing fluence rates. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wątków pamięci społecznej, które z jednej strony opierają się na indywidualnym, potocznym doświadczeniu jednostki, z drugiej umieszczane są w społecznie wynegocjowanych ramach pamięci zbiorowej. Artykuł ten wpisuje się również w dyskusję nad miejscami pamięci i ich możliwą treścią - wykraczającą poza podtrzymujące pamięć zbiorową muzea, pomniki, upamiętniające tablice czy cmentarze - realizowaną w codziennym życiu jednostki. Przedmiotem analiz jest pamięć społeczna mieszkańców Wrocławia, ich konstrukcje światów społecznych opierające się na przestrzeni miasta obciążonej obcą kulturowo „pamięcią nieobecnych”.

In the frame of the restoration intervention on a 16th century wooden altar performed by the experts of the Gallery of Art for the Sicilian Region ‘Palazzo Abatellis’, a deep scientific investigation of the artwork has been made by a scientific team in order to individuate the constitutive materials and techniques. The outcomes from the multi-analytical analyses supported the scheduling and monitoring of the conservation treatments and revealed the pictorial materials and underdrawing techniques typical of the artistic production for this typology of work of art widespread between the 15th and 16th centuries in central and northern Europe.

This chapter discusses the results of a series of data on the syntax of subject clitic pronouns in Venetan dialects. The data were gathered through a crowdsourcing tool (google modules), and more than 700 participants took part in the inquiry. The data collection asked for grammaticality judgements on a series of contexts. The main research question was whether the syntax of subject clitics is changing in the language of the younger generation: this question is particularly important because the distribution of the Venetan varieties througout the Veneto region is changing, due to the increasing influence and presence of Italian, which is the L1 of most of the younger speakers. Verb-Second and (micro)-variation in two Rhaeto-Romance varieties of Northern Italy.

Rhaeto-Romance varieties are the only present-day Romance varieties which exhibit the Verb Second constraint (Benincà 1994, Poletto 2002, Salvi 2010). In this chapter we examine two properties typically ascribed to the Verb Second phenomenon, subject-finite verb inversion and restrictions on the co-occurrence of multiple constituents in the sentence-initial position, in two Rhaeto-Romance varieties spoken in South Tyrol (Province of Bolzano, Northern Italy).
