Can bureaucrats order public health? The case of Norway

2013

Introduction: The implementation of a new structural reform, the Coordination Reform, prioritizing a new public health agenda, was initiated to develop a more decentralized, integrated health care system in Norway in 2012. The same year, new health legislation was implemented and due to the new Public Health Act the responsibility for implementing a new public health agenda was decentralized to the local level. Historically, due to lack of funding – these issues have got low priority among local authorities. The new public health legislation reflects a shift in policy focus from treatment to illness prevention – where planning and partnership among primary end specialist health care, as wel…

The incidence of hip fractures in Norway –accuracy of the national Norwegian patient registry

2014

Background Hip fractures incur the greatest medical costs of any fracture. Valid epidemiological data are important to monitor for time-dependent changes. In Norway, hip fractures are registered in the Norwegian Patient Registry (NPR), but no published national validation exists. The aim of the present study was a national validation of NPR as a register for hip fractures using diagnostic codes (ICD-10 S 72.0-2) and/or procedure codes (NOMESCO version 1.14 NFBxy (x = 0-9, y = 0-2) or NFJxy (x = 0-9, y = 0-2). Method A nationwide, population-based cohort comprising a random sub-sample of 1,000 hip fracture-related entries for the years 2008–09 was drawn from the NPR. 200 entries were defined…

Analytical pyrolysis of wood and non-wood materials from integrated biorefinery concepts

2019

Wood and non-wood differ with respect to their anatomical, physical, and chemical properties, even among their species, resulting in different behaviors during thermal conversion. Hence, understanding the degradation of these feedstocks by pyrolysis is attractive to establish biorefinery possibilities for renewable resources. Additionally, biomass pretreatment technology plays an important role in many biorefinery processes. Therefore, an approach that integrates such pretreatment with pyrolysis offers an attractive, novel method for improving the end-product spectrum (e.g., enriched either with aliphatic or aromatic constituents). Furthermore, a rapid analytical method for biomass feedstoc…

Survival, Growth and Mycorrhization of Containerised Pinus sylvestris and Picea abies Seedlings of Different Provenances Outplanted in a Forest Clear…

2017

Abstract We studied field performance of containerised Pinus sylvestris and Picea abies seedlings of different provenances. Shoot height, needle chemical composition, root collar diameter, root mycorrhization and mycorrhizal species composition were evaluated after four growing seasons following outplanting. The results showed that in general spruce had better survival than pine. Ectomycorrhizas on spruce were dominated by Wilcoxina, Amphinema and Tylospora, while on pine — by Suillus and Thelephora species. Spruce and pine showing best growth rates were colonised by ectomycorrhizal fungus Amphinema sp. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that forest nursery practices as well as provena…

Determinants of revisit intentions : The main determinants of revisit intentions to Norwegian skiing resorts

2016

Master thesis Business Administration - University of Agder 2016 What are the repurchase intentions of winter tourists in Norway in 2016? What makes them satisfied and what are their motivations? This thesis aims to clarify these themes. Existing theories and models of repurchase intentions in travel and tourism, as well as interview data from visitors, will be used to identify the main determinants of revisit intentions. The inspiration for this study came from the vision of the cluster Arena Usus. The Arena Usus network consists of 100 companies within the travel-, experience- and culture business in the south of Norway and they focus on repurchase within travel and tourism and its value.…

Enterprising Culture : Discourses on Entrepreneurship in Nordic Cultural Policy

2017

ABSTRACTThe sphere of arts and culture has been going through a process of economic reevaluation during the last few decades. Parallel to the rise of a creative economy discourse, which both in its political and scientific forms has highlighted the economic significance of culture and arts, entrepreneurship has become a feature in the cultural policy of many countries. In this article, we compare how entrepreneurship is established and used as a concept in cultural policy discourses in two Nordic countries, Norway and Finland. Through analyzing policy plans and documents, we discuss what is seen as positive cultural or artistic activity in the framework of entrepreneurship, and we identify …

Effect of Ending the Nationwide Free School Fruit Scheme on the Intake of Fruits, Vegetables, and Unhealthy Snacks in Norwegian School Children Aged …

2023

The Norwegian authorities started a nationwide free school fruit program in 2007, implemented in all secondary schools (grades 8–10) and combined schools (grades 1–10) in Norway. The program ended in 2014. This study evaluates the effect of ending the nationwide free school fruit program on the consumption of fruit, vegetables, and unhealthy snacks among Norwegian sixth and seventh graders. The study sample consists of pupils at 18 schools that participated in all data collections in the Fruits and Vegetables Make the Marks project (FVMM), initiated in 2001, with new data collections in 2008 and 2018. Four of the schools were combined schools, therefore children in sixth and seventh grade a…
