Abstract Nanoporous carbon microfibers were grown by chemical vapor deposition in the vapor-liquid solid mode using different fluid hydrocarbons as precursors in different proportions. The as-grown samples were further treated in argon and hydrogen atmospheres at different pressure conditions and annealed at several temperatures in order to deduce the best conditions for the incorporation and re-incorporation of hydrogen into the microfibers through the nanopores. The crystal growth of ZnO by vapour transport is classically made in presence of additional species which enhance the growth process. Usually, additional species have been considered as chemical transport agents that promote a typical CVT (Chemical Vapour Transport) process. Recently, we have proposed a new interpretation of the chemical role of some of these species. This new interpretation considers that, in some cases, the additional species promote a partial consumption of the O2 provided by the ZnO decomposition and, consequently, a Zn excess is generated. The effects of Pr3+ doping on the dielectric and photoluminescence properties of BaTi0.9(Yb0.5Nb0.5)0.1O3 ceramic

Abstract The praseodymium Pr3+ doped BaTi0.9(Yb0.5Nb0.5)0.1O3 (BTYN01) ceramic, under low concentration (0.1%), was prepared by a conventional ceramic fabrication technique and its phase structure, microstructure, dielectric, vibrational and photoluminescence (PL) properties was studied. Both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman studies confirmed the incorporation of Pr3+ into A-site lattice of BTYN01. The structure of Ba0.9985Pr0.001□0.0005Ti0.9(Yb0.5Nb0.5)0.1O3 (BTYN01-Pr) shows the coexistence of Pm 3 ¯ m -cubic symmetry (∼10%) and P4mm-tetragonal symmetry (∼90%) at room temperature. Memory effects and coverage dependence of surface diffusion in a model adsorption system

We study the coverage dependence of surface diffusion coefficients for a strongly interacting adsorption system O/W(110) via Monte Carlo simulations of a lattice-gas model. In particular, we consider the nature and emergence of memory effects as contained in the corresponding correlation factors in tracer and collective diffusion. We show that memory effects can be very pronounced deep inside the ordered phases and in regions close to first and second order phase transition boundaries. Particular attention is paid to the details of the time dependence of memory effects. The memory effect in tracer diffusion is found to decay following a power law after an initial transient period. Here, we describe an efficient and diversity-oriented entry to both (-)-artemisinin (1) and its natural antipode (+)-artemisinin, starting from commercially and readily available S-(+)- and R-(-)-citronellene, respectively. Subsequently, we answered the still open question regarding the specificity of artemisinins action. By using a drug-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum NF54 strain, we showed that the antimalarial activity of artemisinin is not stereospecific. The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the flowers of Otanthus maritimus L., a perennial plant growing wild in maritime sands in the Mediterranean region, was investigated by GC and GC-MS analyses. Totally 66 were identified. The oil was dominated by the high content of monoterpene compounds, especially oxygenated monoterpenes which accounted for 73.1%. The most abundant components were yomogi alcohol (20.8%), camphor (15.8%), artemisyl acetate (15.3%) and artemisia alcohol (13.7%). Electrophysiological and Behavioral Responses of Oriental Fruit Moth to the Monoterpenoid Citral Alone and in Combination With Sex Pheromone

The monoterpenoid citral synergized the electroantennogram (EAG) response of male Grapholita molesta (Busck) antennae to its main pheromone compound Z8-12:OAc. The response to a 10-μg pheromone stimulus increased by 32, 45, 54, 71 and 94% with the addition of 0.1, 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 μg of citral, respectively. There was no detectable response to 0.1, 1, or 10 μg of citral; the response to 100 and 1,000 μg of citral was 31 and 79% of the response to 10 μg of Z8-12:OAc. In a flight tunnel, citral affected the mate-seeking behavior of males. There was a 66% reduction in the number of males orientating by flight to a virgin calling female when citral was emitted at 1,000 ng/min ≍1 cm downwind…
