Storie dipinte. Gli ex voto di Dino Buzzati
2012
Data Transmission and Thermo-Optic Tuning Performance of Dielectric-Loaded Plasmonic Structures Hetero-Integrated on a Silicon Chip
2012
We demonstrate experimental evidence of the data capture and the low-energy thermo-optic tuning credentials of dielectric-loaded plasmonic structures integrated on a silicon chip. We show 7-nm thermo-optical tuning of a plasmonic racetrack-resonator with less than 3.3 mW required electrical power and verify error-free 10-Gb/s transmission through a 60-mu m-long dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguide. Technical Note: Comparison of Techniques for Evaluating the Relative Preference by Sheep Among Saltbush Clones
2004
This research compared 4 field methods of evaluating the relative preference by sheep of 28 clones of saltbush (Atriplex halimus L.). The methods were as follows. 1) Leaf dots (LD): 8 leaves per shrub were marked on the lower surface with a small dot using a water-resistant, nontoxic ink. 2) Twig marks (TM): 2 current-year twigs per shrub were marked with 3 lines using the same ink approximately in the middle of the basal, median, and apical thirds. 3) Branch length (BL): 2 branches per shrub were marked with ink at the base of the current year's growth. The twigs were measured from the marked point to the top, before and after sheep browsing. 4) Ocular estimation (OE): the percentage of th…
Rail freight transport and demand requirements : an analysis of attribute cut-offs through a stated preference experiment
2014
This paper analyses the choice between road and rail in Spain where rail market share for freight is still residual. Discrete choice models are estimated with data obtained through a two-phase fieldwork, thus allowing us to carry out a stated preference efficient design for each interviewee. We analyse the existence of attribute cut-offs and the presence of a segment of the population with a zero value of frequency. Our results show that ignoring the existence of cut-offs and segments of the population with polarised valuations can lead to erroneous conclusions in terms of the possibilities of rail for absorbing significant quota.
Computational Screening of Doped Graphene Electrodes for Alkaline CO2 Reduction
2020
The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is considered as one of the most promising approaches to synthesizing carbonaceous fuels and chemicals without utilizing fossil resources. However, current technologies are still in the early phase focusing primarily on identifying optimal electrode materials and reaction conditions. Doped graphene-based materials are among the best CO2RR electrocatalysts and in the present work we have performed a computational screening study to identify suitable graphene catalysts for CO2RR to CO under alkaline conditions. Several types of modified-graphene frame…
ES konkurences tiesību regulējums un pierādīšanas standarts aizliegtu vienošanās lietās, kurās izmantota cenu veidošanas algoritmu programmatūra
2021
Analysis and optimization against buckling of beams interacting with elastic foundation
2017
We consider an infinite continuous elastic beam that interacts with linearly elastic foundation and is under compression. The problem of the beam buckling is formulated and analyzed. Then the optimization of beam against buckling is investigated. As a design variable (control function) we take the parameters of cross-section distribution of the beam from the set of periodic functions and transform the original problem of optimization of infinite beam to the corresponding problem defined at the finite interval. All investigations are on the whole founded on the analytical variational approaches and the optimal solutions are studied as a function of problems parameters. peerReviewed
Vibrations of a continuous web on elastic supports
2017
We consider an infinite, homogenous linearly elastic beam resting on a system of linearly elastic supports, as an idealized model for a paper web in the middle of a cylinder-based dryer section. We obtain closed-form analytical expressions for the eigenfrequencies and the eigenmodes. The frequencies increase as the support rigidity is increased. Each frequency is bounded from above by the solution with absolutely rigid supports, and from below by the solution in the limit of vanishing support rigidity. Thus in a real system, the natural frequencies will be lower than predicted by commonly used models with rigid supports. peerReviewed
Fault Diagnostics for Electrically Operated Pitch Systems in Offshore Wind Turbines
2016
This paper investigates the electrically operated pitch systems of offshore wind turbines for online condition monitoring and health assessment. The current signature based fault diagnostics is developed for electrically operated pitch systems using model-based approach. The electrical motor faults are firstly modelled based on modified winding function theory and then, current signature analysis is performed to detect the faults. Further, in order to verify the fault diagnostics capabilities in realistic conditions, the operating profiles are obtained from FAST simulation of offshore wind turbines in various wind conditions. In this way, the applicability of current signature analysis for …
Microbial Cells and Biosensing: A Dual Approach - Exploiting Antibodies and Microbial Cells as Analytical/Power Systems
2010
The primary focus of this review is the discussion of how biosensor-based platforms can be used in conjunction with microbial cells for monitoring, environmental and industrial applications. Two approaches will be comprehensively discussed. The first of these will examine how immunosensors can be used for the sensitive and selective detection of bacterial pathogens in a range of diverse and complex sample matrices. Secondly, we discuss the implementation of free and immobilised microbial cells for facilitating the analysis of chemicals and metabolites in cost-effective devices that, in turn, are directly applicable to environmental monitoring. Further examples, relating to the uses and adva…
