The special potentials of competence development are the mostly discussed benefits of interorganizational networks. Based on a system-theory-approach the paper examines the possibilities and boundaries of learning in interorganizational networks. On the one hand, the paper gives an answer to the structural question, which network-forms are suitable to realize interorganizational learning effects. On the other hand, the paper presents a process-oriented approach, which is able to describe and to explain the different individual and collective process levels of interorganizational learning as well as the interdependencies between this process levels.

The objective of this paper is to gain an insight into the types of innovation that Spanish firms in arts, heritage and recreation undertook during the period 2006–2011. To achieve this aim we have examined which types of innovation –product, process, marketing and organizational–, have the highest share of the total, and how important organizational innovation is for these firms. As a reaction to the rapidly changing environment, organisations increasingly use agile project management (APM) methods to develop innovation. The associated process changes necessitate the adaption of organisational structures and control systems. This study draws on Simon’s Levers-of-Control framework (LOC) to explore the impact of different control levers on innovation project performance.
