The role of the $\Delta(1232)$-resonance in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory
2013
We stress, on theoretical and phenomenological grounds, the importance of the $\Delta(1232)$-resonance in a chiral effective field theory approach applied to the study of $\pi N$ scattering. We show how its inclusion as a dynamical degree of freedom allow us to obtain reliably valuable information from $\pi N$ scattering data.
Unitary theory of the deuteron photodisintegration.
1989
The deuteron photodisintegration in the \ensuremath{\Delta}-resonance region is calculated within a unitary theory of the NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta}-\ensuremath{\pi}NN system coupled to the photon. The photoexcitation amplitude of the \ensuremath{\Delta} is deduced from the ${M}_{1+}$((3/2) pion photoproduction amplitude consistently with its background term and the \ensuremath{\pi}N interaction. The NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta} transition amplitude is obtained from the coupled equations for the NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta}-\ensuremath{\pi}NN system. The one-pion-exchange currents as well as the normal single-nucleon current are included. The polarization parameters are reproduced quantitatively, but th…
Pion photo- and electro-production and the chiral MAID interface
2016
We discuss the extended on-mass-shell scheme for manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. We present a calculation of pion photo- and electroproduction up to and including order q 4 . The low-energy constants have been fixed by fitting experimental data in all available reaction channels. Our results can be accessed via a web interface, the so-called chiral MAID (http://www.kph.uni-mainz.de/MAID/chiralmaid/). We explain how our program works and how it can be used for further analysis.
Λb and Λc baryon decays at finite values of heavy quark masses
2000
Semileptonic decays of Lambda_b and Lambda_c baryons are studied within the Relativistic Three-Quark Model using finite heavy quark mass values. Employing the same parameters as have been used previously for the description of exclusive decays of heavy baryons in the heavy quark limit we calculate the six form factors of the process and the corresponding decay rates. Our calculation shows that the ``finite mass'' corrections are important in heavy-to-light transitions and are not negligible in heavy-to-heavy transitions.
Including theΔ(1232)resonance in baryon chiral perturbation theory
2005
Baryon chiral perturbation theory with explicit $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$ degrees of freedom is considered. The most general interactions of pions, nucleons, and \ensuremath{\Delta} consistent with all underlying symmetries as well as with the constraint structure of higher-spin fields are constructed. By use of the extended on-mass-shell renormalization scheme, a manifestly Lorentz-invariant effective-field theory with a systematic power counting is obtained. As applications, we discuss the mass of the nucleon, the pion-nucleon \ensuremath{\sigma} term, and the pole of the \ensuremath{\Delta} propagator.
Long-range chiral dynamics of Λ-hyperon in nuclear media
2008
We extend a chiral effective field theory approach to the Λ-nuclei interaction with the inclusion of the decuplet baryons. More precisely, we study the contributions due to the long-range two-pion exchange, with Σ and Σ* baryons in the internal baryonic lines considering Nh and Δh excitations. In particular, central and spin-orbit potentials are studied. For the former, regularization is needed and physical values of the cut-off give a large attraction, becoming necessary to include the repulsion of other terms not considered here. For the latter, in a model-independent framework, the inclusion of the decuplet supports the natural explanation of the smallness of the Λ-nuclear spin-orbit ter…
Fits of the baryon magnetic moments to the quark model and spectrum-generating SU(3)
1982
We show that for theoretical as well as phenomenological reasons the baryon magnetic moments that fulfill simple group transformation properties should be taken in intrinsic rather than nuclear magnetons. A fit of the recent experimental data to the reduced matrix elements of the usual octet electromagnetic current is still not good, and in order to obtain acceptable agreement, one has to add correction terms to the octet current. We have texted two kinds of corrections: U-spin-scalar terms, which are singles out by the model-independent algebraic properties of the hadron electromagnetic current, and octet U-spin vectors, which could come from quark-mass breaking in a nonrelativistic quark …
Effect of three-body forces on response functions in infinite neutron matter
2015
International audience; We study the impact of three-body forces on the response functions of cold neutron matter. These response functions are determined in the random phase approximation (RPA) from a residual interaction expressed in terms of Landau parameters. Special attention is paid to the non-central part, including all terms allowed by the relevant symmetries. Using Landau parameters derived from realistic nuclear two- and three-body forces grounded in chiral effective field theory, we find that the three-body term has a strong impact on the excited states of the system and in the static and long-wavelength limit of the response functions for which a new exact formula is established.
A neutron source for IGISOL-JYFLTRAP : Design and characterisation
2017
A white neutron source based on the Be(p, nx) reaction for fission studies at the IGISOL-JYFLTRAP facility has been designed and tested. 30MeV protons impinge on a 5mm thick water-cooled beryllium disc. The source was designed to produce at least 1012 fast neutrons/s on a secondary fission target, in order to reach competitive production rates of fission products far from the valley of stability. The Monte Carlo codes MCNPX and FLUKA were used in the design phase to simulate the neutron energy spectra. Two experiments to characterise the neutron field were performed: the first was carried out at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala (SE), using an Extended-Range Bonner Sphere Spectrometer and …
Position-sensitive neutron detector
2002
Abstract A position-sensitive neutron detector has been developed for use in nuclear physics research. The detector consists of a ∅5.5 cm×100 cm long quartz tube filled with liquid scintillator viewed from both ends by photomultipliers and enclosed in a light-tight titanium container. The properties of the detector were determined both experimentally and by Monte Carlo simulations (EFEN code). A time resolution of 0.4 ns was reached resulting in the position resolution of less than 4 cm. The neutron registration efficiency varies from 36% to 20% within neutron energy range 1–10 MeV and is practically independent of the position along the detector length. Good n–γ separation is achieved for …
