The angular dependence of spin polarizationP(Θ) of electrons elastically scattered by a beam of mercury atoms is measured in a double scattering experiment for electron energies of 45±1 eV; 23±1 eV; 7±1 eV; and 3,5±1 eV. Maximum degree of polarization obtained isP(100°)=0,39±0,07; electron energy 7±1 eV; electron current 10−12–10−11 A.

The energy distribution of electrons ejected from Mo by He und Ar-ions of 2, 5, 10 and 15 keV has been measured by an electrostatic analyzer of the 127° cylindrical condenser type. The relative number of faster electrons grows with increasing primary energy, but the position of the maximum of the distribution curves (1.9 eV for He and 1.7 eV for Ar) is the same for ion energies of 5, 10 and 15 keV. Only for 2 keV the maximum is shifted slightly towards lower energies.

Assignment of levels in 208Fr and 10- isomers in the odd-odd isotones 206At and 208Fr

Excited states in 208 Fr have been identified using the 197 Au( 16 O, 5n) 208 Fr reaction and a variety of time-correlated γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopic techniques. Transitions above and below a τ = 623(16) ns 10 − isomer are placed in the level scheme. This isomer is analogous to that observed in the odd-odd isotone 206 At for which additional spectroscopic information is also obtained, including a precise lifetime of τ = 1173(30) ns. The γ-rays assigned to 208 Fr are the same as the main transitions erroneously assigned to 209 Fr in previous work.

Shape coexistence in theN=59 isotone97Sr

1988

Experimental evidence for shape coexistence in the N=59 isotone97Sr is presented. The ground state and the lowest excited levels are confirmed to be spherical. At 585.1 keV, a K=3/2 rotational band built on the v[422 3/2] Nilsson configuration has been identified. Nilsson orbital assignments for three further levels of deformed origin are proposed. The results are compared to RPA shell-model predictions.

In-beam?-ray spectroscopy of102In

1993

Neutron deficient nuclei close to100Snhave been investigated in-beam by γ-ray spectroscopic methods using the NORDBALL detector array. A beam of 270 MeV58Niwas used to bombard a target of54Fe.Reaction channel separation was achieved with a 4π charged particle multidetector setup together with a 1π neutron detector wall placed in the forward direction. Excited states of102Inwere identified for the first time. The level scheme constructed from γ-γ-particle-coincidence and γ-γ-angular correlation analysis is presented. The structure of102In is discussed and compared to neighboring nuclei in the framework of the nuclear shell-model.

Nature of93Rb levels studied in IBFM

The structure of the low-lying states with negative parity of3793Rb56 has been studied in the framework of the Interacting Boson-Fermion Model (IBFM) using the even-even neighbour3894Sr56 as a core. A good description of the properties of the levels has been obtained. A sensitive test of the quality of the theoretical studies is the decay pattern of the second excited state at 267 keV with a half-life of 2.0(2) ns. The calculations givet1/2=2.26 ns and they predict the existence of a 13 keV transition into the first excited state, the existence of which has been confirmed afterwards by experiments.

Structure of theN=59 nucleus97Sr: coexistence of spherical and deformed states

1990

A band with a rotational pattern based on a state at 585.1 keV has been identified in theN=59 neutron-rich nucleus97Sr. Its properties lead to the [422] 3/2 Nilsson-orbital assignment for the band head. There is evidence for a second band with the head at 644.7 keV and the configuration [541] 3/2. Since the ground state and the lowest excited levels are spherical, shape coexistence is established for97Sr. A deformed nature of several levels at 500–600 keV results also from QRPA-model calculations. Precise determination of the ground state hyperfine splitting of135Ba+

1983

A microwave-optical double resonance experiment has been performed on135Ba+ ions, confined in a r.f. quadrupole trap. Linewidths as narrow as 0.9 Hz have been obtained on the 7.18 GHz,F=1,m=0 toF=2,m=0 transition. Shifts of the resonance frequency due to magnetic stray fields and the electric trapping field have been observed. The final result, extrapolated to zero field strengths, isΔ υHFS=7183340234.90(0.57) Hz.
